Life & Work with Joey Noyes of Greenville, South Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Noyes.

Hi Joey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up around music as a little kid, watching my dad play guitar in some different bands. This led to my siblings and I singing as a trio with my dad being the accompanist. We would play for family members, show-and-tells, and even did some small recordings that we have on a cd! While I tried to continue with music by playing cello and the electric bass, I never grew to love what I was doing. Instead of growing what musical talents I had, I started devoting all my time to baseball. For many years I lived and breathed baseball, without any mind of playing or singing any kind of music. It wasn’t until my sophomore year of high school that I rediscovered the love that I had for my musical gifts. The rekindling came from my relationship with Jesus. After a miracle happened at my church summer camp, I felt like it was time for me to start singing again. As I returned home to my normal life, I started to insert singing into my rhythm, which led to finding some new friends that gave me new life to my music. Since then, I have have continued to find new opportunities to express my love for Jesus through my music. In the last 3 years, I have gotten to discover what music looks like where I am not performing other people’s songs, but getting to write and perform my own! Through the inspiration of some close friends, I have gotten to write, produce and release some of my first songs into the world!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In short, no! As I have continued to discover the love that I have for music, that talent doesn’t come naturally. It comes with much time and devotion. Whether it be through my performances in college or now getting to perform my own music, all of it only comes with much time. While I have gotten to spend much time figuring out who I am as a musician, it also changes with every season of life. That will always be the challenge that comes with music!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The majority of my music has been expressed in the context of church, where I have gotten to learn what it is like leading people in worship through a relationship with Jesus. I have led for rooms of 6 people and rooms of 1,200! Regardless of the size of a room, I have consistently seen how music unifies and tells stories of Jesus’ love for people. I have also gotten to be apart of many summer camps through different organizations! Thats where all of the fun happens! The most recent creative thing I have gotten to do is writing and producing my own music! It has been awesome to figure what and who I want to be as a solo artist. It has been such an adventure discovering those things! My most recent song is called “Running Away” under my full name “Joey Noyes.”

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I recently got to start a full time job as a worship leader at a church in Greenville called Redeemer City Church! This job is something I have been hoping for for a long time and I am so grateful for the opportunity to do this form of music that I love so much! During this time, I will continue to write and make music as time allows! The would love to get to the point where I can perform my own music!
