Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Medina.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello my name is Ashley Medina, my husband and I Steve Medina moved to Maine about 4 years ago my husband has a passion for making wood furniture pieces. We were looking for a storefront for him to sell his work, someone came to us and said that someone was selling their flower business and it was something that we could incorporate together with his work. Although it sounded a little nerve-wracking we are very open-minded people, We knew nothing about flowers but really wanted to talk and give this a shot. We were then introduced to a very special person Jim Duplessis. It was his flower business that he was selling! We met him, spent some time talking going back and forth with the decision between my husband and I, we finally looked at each other and said let’s do it!! Jim’s deal was that he would train whoever came along, and that’s what he did! He trained both of us and in that time we spent with him we learned a lot and fell absolutely in love with it! Jim taught us the proper ways to do things, and how to be professional and love what you do! He always made us laugh and was a joy to be around! He’s a big part of how we fell in love with what we do! We wouldn’t have known anything about flowers if it wasn’t for him! With unforeseen circumstances we had to head back home. After we settled in It was in my heart to start the business again this time out here in South Carolina! It has taken a village to help us to get to where we are now 4 months in! My husband who loves building furniture helped us put our store together and made it come alive! We have a lot to be thankful for and are still new with about a year and half experience there’s still something to always learn and grow. We just want to give our love and passion to the communities around us and hoping they will give us a chance to grow with them! It has been a great adventure so far! We are thankful for everyone who has helped us along the way and look forward to the future!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel like with owning any kind of business there’s always going to be some kind of struggle along the way It’s how you get through it!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a florist shop We specialize in making flower arrangements anywhere from birthdays, just because, anniversaries, sympathy/even bigger funeral pieces, small wedding pieces and small events. Some things that set us apart from others is our flower bar and our little boutique. I used to deliver to a lot of flower shops, and we wanted to think of something that nobody else had. That’s our flower bar and boutique. We carry nice quality items from our beautiful smelling potpourri, to fancy handbags, pillows, blankets, candles and wreaths (made by a local)
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
My husband and I both grew up in California It’s funny because neither of us in our childhood or young adults growing up ever thought that we would be a florist one day. I have always worked in retail though, and my husband has been in the wood working business for a really long time.
