Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda / Jay Pryce/ Gibbs.
Hi Brenda / Jay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Dr. Brenda Pryce has been a mentor to me for many years . She asked for me to help with the jubilee parade and I could not refuse . Dr.Pryce has been a staple in the community and she has Inspired many to get out sin the community and make a difference . Jay Gibbs has done several events all over world I really wanted to do something in Spartanburg . I grew up here but I have recently moved back . We have had many challenges this year but we didn’t give up and we feel like we are in a good place and have even started to put things in place for next year.
Dr.Pryce and I have been very busy trying to get the message out about what Juneteenth represents and giving the history so many never got .
We recognize the importance of what Juneteenth means and the symbolic nature of the parade . That’s why we selected to go thru the neighborhoods of the south side and down church street ending at the legendary Carver jr high school . Which in itself is historic when it was a high school. Several students who graduated from Carver High School went on to great things . The parade will be historical because it will be the first to ever go through the neighborhoods and hopefully make a positive impact on the kids who will be able to just walk out of their doors and see the parade . We also have supporting events such as a car show and we also have a dance team competition . We will have vendors selling food ,t-shirts, other products and books . This will be a historic day celebrating a very .pivotal time in American history . We look forward to celebrating and sharing important stories about this moment in history.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We had to change dates 3 times . The climate of businesses these days is very interesting . Many companies that normally would not hesitate to get involved didn’t this year . But we pushed through and we got it done . Things are now moving as we would have expected but it was tough . We are even making plans and solidifying partners for next year

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Going up Dr.Pryce was is heroin , she has always been out in the community fighting for all people’s rights, the progression of the city of Spartanburg and making sure that everyone was treated fairly. She has inspires many of us by becoming a state representative and working in politics for many years .Dr.Brenda Lee Pryce has also wrote books on the history of Spartanburg . Her books are on sale now . She took me under her wing very early and got me interested in community as well . So my younger years was spent passing out campaign flyers mixed with school , spirts and functions .
