Today we’d like to introduce you to May.
Hi May , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Molly Creek Soap Company began as a small farmers market venture born out of a love for creating natural, handmade bath products that people could feel good about using. For five years, I ran the business seasonally, developing our signature soaps and body care items while building relationships with a loyal customer base.
Throughout that time, my husband Byron and I were always dreaming of a permanent home for the business. We wanted a space that could reflect the heart of what Molly Creek is all about—community, craftsmanship, and connection. In late 2024, we found that place in the historic town of Ridgeway, South Carolina. We renovated a charming old building, originally a grocery store in the 1970s, and expanded our vision.
When we opened Molly Creek Company in January 2025, it wasn’t just soaps anymore. We added local farm goods, specialty foods, and products from other small makers—many from right here in the Carolinas. It’s become more than a store; it’s a gathering place, a celebration of the handmade, and a reflection of everything we love about Southern hospitality and sustainability.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most small business journeys, ours hasn’t always been smooth—but it’s been worth every bump. Opening a brick-and-mortar store brought a whole new set of challenges. Renovating an older building took longer and cost more than we expected (as these things often do). Then came the logistics of expanding our inventory, finding reliable local vendors, and learning how to run a retail store from the ground up—all during a time of economic uncertainty.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Molly Creek Company is a handcrafted lifestyle brand rooted in tradition, community, and Southern charm. What began as Molly Creek Soap Company—a farmers market favorite known for small-batch, natural soaps and body care—has grown into a vibrant brick-and-mortar store located in the heart of Ridgeway, South Carolina.
We specialize in thoughtfully made bath and body products, artisan pantry items, and unique goods from local farms and makers. Every product we carry is chosen with care, with a focus on quality, sustainability, and storytelling. We believe in supporting small-batch producers, honoring our Southern roots, and creating a shopping experience that feels like home.
At Molly Creek, we’re more than a store—we’re a celebration of slow living, good craftsmanship, and the power of community. Whether you’re here for a bar of handmade soap, a jar of local honey, or just a friendly conversation, we want you to leave feeling connected and cared for.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
We’ve learned that flexibility is essential. Things rarely go according to plan, and the ability to pivot, stay grounded, and keep showing up—even on the hard days—is what makes the difference. Growth doesn’t always look like profit margins or big wins; sometimes it’s quiet resilience and staying true to your values no matter what.
