Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Tate.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been an animal “rescuer”.
As I child I would save the critters my cats would catch, lure all the neighborhood strays in to my home to feed them, always went to the animal shelter “just to look” but always came home with someone. My love for all things four legged was just at my core and has parlayed in to a lifelong mission to save as many as I possibly can, to give them a second or third chance, to give them a LIFE they deserve.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Absolutely not.
Rescue as a whole is never smooth.
Every day starts with a full inbox of pleas, dogs given up on, neglect, abuse, a file of heartbreaking photos that are seared on my brain. Each and every day for the past ten years is a challenge : to raise much needed funds, to find new foster homes, to get dogs out alive and in to our care.
There’s never enough hours or hands to do it all.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Lucky Pup Rescue SC is a foster based non profit dog rescue serving the Southeast to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs from high kill shelters, abuse and neglect, extreme medical conditions, strays, and owner surrenders. We accept all ages, sizes, and breeds.
We are currently in our tenth year of operation, having saved over 4,000 canines.
We do community outreach to provide food and low cost spay and neuter to help keep loved pets in their homes instead of ending up in the shelter system.
We truly believe in the importance of animal companionship and being able to help those who are greatest in need, both two and four legged.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Our greatest need is always donations: monetary or supplies.
We receive no funding, we rely solely on generous donations and wonderful volunteers.
Our foster program is like no other.
After fostering for over 20 rescues in my personal life, I saw the workings of how other organizations operate, the good and the bad.
This lit a fire in me and I knew how to make the process of fostering easier, better.
We provide all medical care, all supplies, and a round the clock support system to our foster homes who choose to bring a foster dog in to their home.
Without foster homes, there is no rescue.
Point blank.
Opening your home to a canine in need is the most rewarding experience of you are an animal lover like the rest of us.
Showing a forgotten, thrown away dog how to trust and love again… there is simply no other love like it.
