Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Burke.
Hi Faith, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Faith Burke, I am a Family and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, for the past 30 years. Also, board certified in Lifestyle Medicine. I’ve had the privilege of caring for patients of all ages. Over time, I’ve seen how poor lifestyle habits often lead to chronic conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and fatigue.
I founded Magnolia Wellness Center to offer a better, more sustainable approach to health.
By combining Integrative Lifestyle Medicine with the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model, I help patients take control of their health, focusing on the root causes, not just symptoms. My care is personal, compassionate, and centered on your unique needs.
With education, support, and the time to truly listen, I partner with each patient to build a healthier, more vibrant life.
While I work with individuals, I’m also a passionate supporter of employee health. Over the past 7 years, I’ve developed and managed an Employee Health & Wellness Clinic at the Charles Lea Center in Spartanburg.
I work along side employers to bring quality health care services to their employees. Throughout my career, I’ve developed and led many wellness programs including Just Walk With Your NP (a chapter of Walk with a Doc), Cooking Up Confidence, Mental Health First Aid Training, Blood Pressure Management, and various Weight Management programs. These initiatives support the physical and mental well-being of all populations.
On a personal note, I’ve been married for 37 years, and a proud mother of two amazing adult children, Emily and Joseph.
In my free time, I love soaking in the peace of the beach and the beauty of the mountains.
Good health isn’t about simply treating symptoms, it’s about creating a lifestyle that supports lifelong wellness. I’m here to help my patients do just that.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, but it’s been worth every step. Starting Magnolia Wellness Center has been a journey filled with passion, purpose, and plenty of growing pains. Transitioning from traditional healthcare into a Direct Primary Care model meant stepping outside of the insurance-based system and building something completely different. That alone came with a learning curve; educating the community, securing the right location, setting up operational systems, and juggling all the roles of being both a provider and a business owner.
There were moments of uncertainty, financial risk, long nights, and a lot of self-doubt. But I believed deeply in the vision: to offer truly personalized care, to treat patients as whole people, and to make healthcare feel human again. Every challenge, from navigating regulations to spreading awareness has shaped Magnolia Wellness Center into what it is today: a place where patients are truly seen, heard, and supported.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Magnolia Wellness Center, I provide personalized, relationship-based healthcare through the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I specialize in preventive care, chronic disease management, and Lifestyle Medicine focusing on root causes rather than just symptoms. I work closely with my patients on things like nutrition, stress, sleep, physical activity, and emotional wellness to support long-term health.
I’m best known for truly listening to my patients and making them feel heard, valued, and cared for. My visits aren’t rushed, and I offer direct access, whether by text, phone, or in-person; so patients never feel alone in their healthcare journey. I explained to my patients about laboratory testing and results. My goal is to empower them about their health. Motivate them towards wellness.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my patients and the community. People come here and tell me, “This is the first time I’ve felt like someone really sees me.” That’s everything. I assist may patients with coordinating their care outside of my office, often assisting in navigating a complex system; referring to specialists and other supports they may need, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
What sets Magnolia Wellness apart is that I take time, I build relationships, and I focus on wellness, prevention, and assisting my patients to move out of sick care. Its a different way of practicing medicine, and its deeply personal. That’s why I started my practice. People have options for their health care services, Direct Primary Care offers a better way.
Magnolia Wellness Center is honored to be part of The Health Conscious Co-op; an inspiring community rooted in hope, harmony, and healing. By collaborating with other wellness-focused providers, we’re able to extend our mission beyond the exam room, offering whole-person care that nurtures physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being across Upstate South Carolina. Together, we believe in creating a healthcare experience that is compassionate, empowering, and centered on true healing.
Additionally to my role as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I am a certified Mental Health First Aide Instructor. I am passionate about breaking stigma and empowering others. I have trained over 300 people in our community to recognize and response to mental health needs. When we empower our residents, we strengthen our entire community.
In October 2024, I was the recipient, of the Mental Health Community Advocate Award on behalf of the Charles Lea Center, through the Mental Health America of Spartanburg County. The Charles Lea Center had demonstrated outstanding leadership and service in improving access to mental health care services within our community. This award honors organizations that have established innovative programs promoting mental wellness.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe risk is often the gateway to growth and starting Magnolia Wellness Center was one of the biggest professional risks I’ve ever taken.
Leaving the traditional healthcare system, walking away from insurance-based practice models, and stepping into entrepreneurship wasn’t easy. I gave up the security of a predictable paycheck and took a leap of faith to create something more meaningful, not just for myself, but for the patients I care for.
Starting a Direct Primary Care practice with the integration of Lifestyle Medicine meant challenging the norm and reimagining how healthcare should be delivered: with more time, more access, and more personal connection. It’s a risk that required courage, resilience, and a strong belief in a better way forward.
I see risk not as recklessness, but as a commitment to possibility, the possibility of healing, of transformation, and of deeper, more effective care. And that’s a risk I’ll always be proud to take.
At Magnolia Wellness Center, we’re not just treating symptoms, we’re partnering with you to transform your health and enhance your quality of life.
