Today we’d like to introduce you to Michel Micó.
Hi Michel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Havana, Cuba. Since I was a child I drawing in every paper I catch. I grow up with the huge influence of my father, Fidel Micó,he is a great visual artists, and for me was very important .At the age of 18 years old I started to study in a professionally way. I went to the school of arts San Alejandro in Havana, Cuba, but I was young and because of my many concerns as an artist I decided to follow my path freely and study on my own . I was there just one year. With the pass of the time I started to collaborate with another artists. I started to teaching children’s and teenagers , and for me is one of the best experience in my life. In 2021 I had the pleasure of meet to the great musician, conductor, embassador of peace, and music teacher Sir John Keen. And with him and my wife we started together to work in a humanitarian way. Because of this work I was promotion to be a President of the International Action Art of the department of Cuba. And Through that institution and the Master John Kenn, I was able to do different exhibitions and coordinate activities of arts. I fulfilled my dream of having my first exhibition in Greece and then doing it in my country. At the moment I am in Egypt working, and although my greatest passion is painting oil paintings At the moment I am working on contract, making academic pencil portrait drawings
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing never is easy. It’s needed a lot of sacrifice, study, and discipline to do a good art.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In this moment I am working in Egypt, by a contract, making academics drawing portrait by commissions. And for me this is very important, because my work now is It is reaching different countries in Europe like, England, Germany, Russia, Spain.
It is a great satisfaction for me that my clients like my work. And there is something that is of vital importance when making a drawing or a painting And it’s about trying to capture the different expressions on faces. It’s a challenge, but also something I enjoy doing.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
From the moment you decide to be an artist, you are exposing yourself to great risk. It’s an adventure, one in which nothing is certain. Because every day depends on the effort and what you can do, as well as the quality we offer as artists. The public always demands the best. And for them, and for ourselves, we must always give them the best.
The most recent risk I took was coming to Egypt, a wonderful place, but with very different customs than mine.
