Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabitha Harris.
Hi Tabitha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my apprenticeship at 19, and I’ve been tattooing for about 11 years now. At 19 I didn’t know anything about tattoos or the industry, to be honest, I ended up taking a blind leap on a whim but I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunities I’ve had since. I can’t picture doing anything else with my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel like I’ve been extremely lucky, I came into the industry at a time it was becoming less of a male-dominated field, you don’t see the struggle now that a female artist would have dealt with 20 years ago. The hardest thing for me was Covid. I did Children’s Theater for a bit before I tattooed, but that’s the only non-tattoo job I’ve ever had. I spent 3 Months wondering how different the industry would be when shops opened back up, luckily it worked out, mostly due to everyone’s collective cabin fever manifesting into the immediate need for a tattoo once the shops opened back up!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love doing anything with color! New School is my favorite style, but I’m honestly happiest doing anything whimsical, colorful, silly or big and bold!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I wouldn’t be able to tattoo if my mentor, Chris, didn’t give a silly kid with no tattoos a chance, I’m forever grateful for that. I also owe a lot to Josh Wiley, owner of Gypsy Moon, who’s been a good friend and supporter for the last 8 years I’ve been at the shop.
