Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronak Patel.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A Journey of Purpose: From Humble Beginnings to Empowering Communities
By Ronak Patel
In the heart of Spartanburg, South Carolina, a remarkable journey began—one that would ultimately reshape not just the life of a young man, but also the community he would one day call home. My name is Ronak Patel, and this is the story of how a boy from a modest farm in India grew into a serial entrepreneur and community advocate in the United States. It is a narrative defined by ambition, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to giving back.
Chapter 1: Roots and Early Life
My story begins in India, where I was born into a tightly woven family that prized hard work, integrity, and service to others. My father, Dinesh Patel, was a farmer—a man of immense generosity and strength—who lived by the principle that true wealth lies in one’s ability to help those around them. In 1987, our family made a life-changing move to Spartanburg in pursuit of greater opportunities. The transition was far from easy, but it instilled in me two of life’s most valuable lessons: adaptability and perseverance.
Chapter 2: A Defining Decision
Like many first-generation immigrants, I was encouraged to follow a traditional path to success. I enrolled in the University of South Carolina, majoring in pharmacy, believing it to be a stable and respectable career. However, after 18 months, I came to the realization that my passions lay elsewhere. Choosing to step away from college was a deeply personal and difficult decision, but one that ultimately unlocked the door to a life of entrepreneurship.
Chapter 3: The Spark of Entrepreneurship
At the age of 23, with the guidance and encouragement of my father-in-law, I opened my first gas station in downtown Hardeeville, SC. What started as a single venture soon evolved into a burgeoning enterprise. I discovered a true passion for business—along with a natural ability to lead and inspire others. Over time, I expanded into multiple industries, owning and operating convenience stores, a pharmacy, and a liquor store. Each new challenge taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, strategy, and the ever-evolving landscape of small business.
Chapter 4: A Purpose Greater Than Profit
As my professional success grew, so did my sense of responsibility to the community that had supported me. Alongside my wife, Vaishali, we established the Patel Foundation of the Lowcountry—a philanthropic initiative dedicated to providing both immediate relief and long-term support to those in need. Whether through food drives, educational programs, or disaster relief efforts, our mission has always been clear: to uplift and empower our neighbors in tangible, lasting ways.
Chapter 5: Expanding Horizons
Driven by curiosity and a desire to innovate, I continued to explore new ventures. From investing in emerging technology to launching an imported Mezcal brand and expanding into insurance, I sought opportunities that aligned with both my entrepreneurial spirit and community-focused mission. Each new endeavor reflected a deeper belief: that true success is measured not just in profits, but in the positive impact we create.
Chapter 6: Planting Seeds for the Future
One of the most fulfilling milestones in my journey has been the creation of an after-school resources program aimed at equipping young minds with life skills and financial literacy. Through these programs, we aim to cultivate confidence, critical thinking, and a sense of possibility in the next generation. Watching these students grow and thrive has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my life’s work.
Conclusion: A Vision Moving Forward
My journey—from the fields of India to the entrepreneurial landscape of America—has been fueled by a desire to defy expectations, challenge limitations, and uplift others along the way. As I look ahead, my focus remains on innovation, mentorship, and building a legacy rooted in service. The story of Ronak Patel is still being written, and it stands as a testament to what is possible when we dare to dream beyond our circumstances and lead with purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Through unwavering dedication and the ability to overcome numerous obstacles, I was able to pave a path toward success in a variety of ventures. Along the way, I often sought guidance and support, but such resources weren’t always readily available. In those moments, I leaned on the foundational knowledge I had acquired through my education, using it as a compass to research, learn, and navigate the many industries I ventured into—ranging from convenience stores and real estate development to construction, pharmacy, liquor retail, wholesale distribution, restaurants, insurance, and even international import operations.
While professional growth has been a defining part of my journey, maintaining personal health and carving out quality time for family has been an ongoing challenge. I am now making a concerted effort to prioritize both, understanding that true success encompasses not only what we build in the world but also the well-being of those closest to us.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Among the various business ventures I’ve been fortunate to build, one of our foundational entities is V&R Corporation, which proudly owns and operates a gas station and convenience store in Hardeeville, South Carolina. While I consider myself an entrepreneur at heart, my aspiration is to grow into a true serial entrepreneur—someone who not only creates multiple successful businesses but also inspires and empowers others along the way.
I am a relationship-driven person—easygoing, well-connected, and always eager to collaborate. What truly sets me apart is my deep-rooted belief in helping others on their journey, knowing that success is most meaningful when it’s shared. I strongly believe in the power of karma: when you put good energy into the world, it inevitably finds its way back. This mindset has guided not only my business endeavors but also my personal mission.
One of the accomplishments I hold dearest is the founding of the Patel Foundation of the Lowcountry—a charitable organization dedicated to serving our surrounding communities, with aspirations to expand nationwide. Through initiatives such as educational tutoring and hunger relief, we aim to make a tangible and lasting impact. Ultimately, my greatest goal in life is to live as a true philanthropist, dedicating my time and efforts to serving others and walking in alignment with the greater purpose of God’s work.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
A significant part of my personal and professional growth has been shaped by combining time-tested wisdom with modern insight. One of the most impactful resources on my entrepreneurial journey has been Traction by Gino Wickman. The principles laid out in that book have helped me bring structure, clarity, and vision to my ventures.
However, the foundation of who I am today goes much deeper. It is rooted in the traditional Indian values and principles instilled in me by my parents—values of discipline, humility, respect, and resilience. As I embraced life in America, I learned to adapt and adopt the dynamic, forward-thinking mindset of Western culture. The fusion of these two worlds—heritage and innovation—has shaped my unique perspective and leadership style. It’s this blend that has allowed me to build meaningful relationships, lead with intention, and navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship with purpose and authenticity.
