Conversations with Karly Cunningham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karly Cunningham.

Hi Karly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I moved to Greenville in 2022 with my daughter and dogs, eager to discover everything we could do together in our new city. As I started exploring, I realized how many amazing dog-friendly spots and businesses Greenville has — but there wasn’t one easy place to find them all.

With my background in User Experience Design and Web Development, I decided to build a resource not just for myself, but for the whole local community and anyone moving to the area with dogs. That’s how Good Dogs of Greenville was born!

What started as a personal passion project quickly took off and became Good Dogs of Greenville. In 2025, we launched our mobile app featuring curated Guides, Pup Perks, and Events to help local dog parents discover the best of Greenville alongside their pups.

At the heart of our mission is supporting dog parents with the resources they need to keep their dogs happy, healthy, and hopefully in loving homes — and out of shelters. Today, Good Dogs of Greenville is more than an app; it’s a growing community of dog lovers dedicated to making life better for pups all over the Upstate.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Tt hasn’t been a completely smooth road — but that’s part of what’s made the journey so meaningful!

Building Good Dogs of Greenville has come with its share of challenges. One of the biggest has been raising awareness and getting the word out, both to local dog parents and to small businesses. Educating businesses on the value of partnering with us and helping them see how we can support each other has taken time and persistence.

On the technical side, launching and growing a mobile app always comes with surprises — from fixing bugs to improving the user experience based on community feedback. And of course, balancing a big vision with limited resources as a small, independent business has been a learning experience of its own.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

What we’re most proud of is the impact we’re making — not just in helping people explore the city with their pups, but in supporting local businesses and promoting happy, healthy homes for dogs. We want to be part of keeping dogs out of shelters and with families who love them.
