Inspiring Conversations with Kari The Jeweler of Kari Diamondz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari The Jeweler.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up in Greenville, South Carolina, I was surrounded by a quiet charm, Trees with green leaves, the rush of the Reedy River and a strong sense of community. As a kid, I didn’t know what I wanted to be, but I was always drawn to the small details. Whether it was the way the light hit glass windows or the sparkle of diamond jewelry that famous celebrities wore. Something about beauty in small things caught my eye.

My family wasn’t in the jewelry business. My family was mostly poor and hustled to provide. But over time, my family started to try new things. Now we have barbers, clothing designers and much more in the family.

After high school, I worked a series of jobs. Mainly in the manufacturing industry. But I never let go of my fascination with jewelry. On the weekends, I started going to the mall or random jewelry shops around the city. Sometimes I would buy earrings or I would just go just to see the diamonds shine on different jewelry pieces. Then I started to wonder, How is the stuff made and how could I do it myself? So I started going to ask some of the jewelers in the area for information. They didn’t want to help me. So I started doing my own research and investing in equipment as I learned more. So I had to basically teach myself how to shape metal, set stones, and most importantly, tell stories through pieces that last generations. So becoming a jeweler wasn’t a straight path for me. But where there’s a Will, there’s a way!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were many challenges of course during the years of learning. Whether it was learning to create 3D jewelry cad files or physically making jewelry. It took a lot of time and effort. All while working a full time job.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
