Daily Inspiration: Meet Alo Fails

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alo Fails.

Hi Alo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Alo Fails. I am from the DMV area, but relocated to S.C. back in 2023. I’m a self-taught artist who has made discoveries in how my art creates togetherness. I’ve always had the drive to self-motivate and teach myself because I know I am supposed to be helping the world heal through my journey and art. I’ve been drawing since the age of four. I remember coloring on my mom’s brand new piece of furniture and just having the time of my life. Well, she wasn’t that happy; however, I believe that was when I had a passion for art. At that moment, my mom encouraged me to draw on paper and the proper things to make art with. Growing up, I remember sharing my passion for becoming an artist when I got older. The quick rejection and judgment that followed me sharing my dream were harsh. That caused me to bottle up my love for art and only do it when I was in my own space, where only I could see it. The doubts that I allowed others to create for me were the type of drawings I would create, even then my art gave off as shy or masked, if that makes sense. Through the years, I’ve learned how to overcome the adversities, but most importantly, I’ve believed in myself and trusted in God’s plan for me. Believing in self is important and plays a huge part in walking in my purpose. From selling candy in the hallways of school to making t-shirts and selling them. Watching my mom do her very best in raising me, I felt like I needed to help her out. I’ve always had a hard-working ethic, and that was instilled in me at an early age because I’ve watched my mom work very hard. It wasn’t until 2018, when a special person pushed and encouraged me to share my art with the world and get myself out in the world and bless it with my art. I still was in a doubtful state and didn’t believe in myself, so after a few months I began working on myself and working on me internally. I then chose to design my logo for my business since I had come up with the name a few years prior. This was my awakening, when I started believing in myself again, and then my imagination was unlocked and began to create something so beautiful. That special person that was mentioned above is my best friend, business partner, accountability partner, the right brain when mine is sleeping, my wife, Panda Fails. Being an artist can be challenging, however, when you push through and trust the process, it can all be rewarding. I’ve had many high and low moments, but I can say that the journey was well worth it. After seven years with having my my business, Never Fails Kustomz, we are now flourishing and getting ready to release some really big things that are happening. I enjoy acrylic medium, however, I will make art with anything I can. For example, I kustomize clothes, canvases, sneakerz, wooden paddlez, clockz, welcome boardz, and koloring books sold on Amazon. Now I have done a couple of murals also, but I don’t have a specific thing I kustomize. My imagination is in charge of how I kreate for the day. I have all this way by trusting in God and believing in myself. No one else’s opinion of me matters, I know what I need to do while I’m here on Earth, and most importantly I know who I am. My favorite things that excite me the most is being told no, just means I’m almost to the people that I am supposed to be around, beginning to change the world with one smile at a time. My mission is to inspire others with my art to know that you can do whatever you want to do and without judgment. I bring out the inner child in others and remind them how to play and just be surrounded in their JOY. I will continue to spread love, light, and art around the world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been unique, some times were smooth and others not so much. A struggle that I go through even now to this day is closing out a sale due to my number being my number. Standing strong on my worth and not budging shakes up feathers, however, I know myself well enough that I don’t have to give in. A few more struggles to list, following through when kreating something new, getting all of my commissions completed on time, and not letting up on myself. When I say following through when kreating something new, I mean that during the process, my mind wants to update or add something that has now become harder for me to see the result. Some commissions, I don’t give myself enough time, so at times that causes more work and struggles because I have to remain calm and not bring the kustom chaos. I am always critiquing my stuff because I know there is always room for improvement. I give my all to every kustom that I kreate.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do kustom work on anything I can draw on and then paint afterwards. I love using acrylic anything. My style is very unique. I consider myself one of many weirdo artists. Weirdos are kool! I am known for my use of bright colors in all of my work. I love colors and using them to portray many joyful experiences for others. I am most proud of my transformation in growing and developing my style. What sets me apart from others is that I simply make art for all. My mission is to bring others together and help them tap into their inner child and create something they will be proud of without judgment. I engage with a lot of people and spread light, light, and art.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
My most important lesson was learned recently. God created the heavens and the earth. He also created all of us. Since God created us all, we all have a purpose, we just have to look inward and see what He has planned for us. When I learned this, I took it as we are made in God’s image, therefore, we should take a deeper look and see who we truly are. Once you’ve figured out the real and true you, things will begin to fall into place for you. Write the vision plain. I discovered that I have all that I need to get started, and the rest will fall in place because God’s timing always wins. I began working on myself, and then God revealed a few opportunities to make sure I am ready, like I said I was. All I’m saying is that before you go and question God about anything, take that look in the mirror first and make sure your heart and mind are in alignment with the questions you may have. Be honest with yourself, know that it’s alright if you fail, find the lesson in it, research, and go be in environments where you see yourself, find your faith, and just start.
