Conversations with Teresa Cheek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Cheek.

Hi Teresa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am leaving a 20+ year corporate career in human resources to start this beautiful boutique. My vision is to have something that could personally grow me into the next phase of life while providing something for my local community. I prayed and decided to go back to my roots of fashion and fun. I love color and have a personal love, from my momma, for flowers. They remind us of Gods beauty. So with that I decided to open a boutique that caters to all colors of the rainbow and every person in the family. We will also carry a small selection of health and beauty items along with gifts. Coming into Local Threads Aiken should bring a person closer to fun, positive energy and lots of color! We offer a small prayer tree in the back to leave a prayer or take a prayer and my business has a Christ foundation. Without him I would not have taken this leap of faith.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening this lovely place has had some challenges. I returned more apparel in the first 60 days than I have bought in 6 months. It was important for me to find quality fabric and clothing that was also at an affordable price. This would allow me to pass that savings onto the customer. My store is in an area where there has not been a steady line of foot traffic so that offers daily a challenge on how to get the word out. When customers find us they say it is so worth it! We are literally less than 50 steps from the hustle & bustle of our busy downtown but we are facing challenges of people knowing we are here. I pray a lot and have turned to social media to help with this challenge.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The boutique is known for lots of colorful and fun clothes. I have a background from long ago in fashion, interior design and organizational management. I left that career and moved into human resources. After a very successful career I decided to go back to what I enjoy and allowing my creative enjoyment help to blossom beautiful women all over the CRSA! I offer an eye for fun fashion for both men and women and love to help personal style at anyone’s request.
