Conversations with Lana S

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lana S.

Hi Lana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into web design started with a mix of curiosity and creativity. I’ve always been drawn to design and storytelling, and early on, I realized the web was the perfect place to combine both. That interest led me to take a web design course through my university, where I gained hands-on experience with WordPress, HTML, and CSS — which gave me a strong foundation to build on.

From there, I started designing websites for friends, small businesses, and personal projects. What began as a hobby quickly turned into a passion, and eventually, I launched my freelance business: Light Web Design. The name reflects my style — clean, modern, and intuitive websites that help people bring their ideas to life online.

Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients and continue learning with each project. It’s been a rewarding journey, and I’m excited to keep growing and creating.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I think that’s part of what makes the journey meaningful. One of the biggest challenges early on was confidence — putting my work out there, especially as a freelancer, can feel vulnerable. It took time to trust my skills and to understand that growth comes with practice and persistence.

Another struggle was learning how to balance the creative side of design with the business side of freelancing — setting rates, managing timelines, finding clients, and handling communication. None of that was covered in my university course, so I had to learn a lot through trial and error.

There were moments of self-doubt, slow seasons, and technical hurdles, but each challenge taught me something valuable. It’s all part of the process, and I’ve come to appreciate the ups and downs — they’ve made me more adaptable and resilient.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Light Web Design, I focus on creating clean, modern, and user-friendly websites — primarily for small businesses, creatives, and entrepreneurs who want to build a strong presence online without all the overwhelm. I specialize in WordPress design, with a solid foundation in HTML and CSS, which gives me the flexibility to customize each site based on my client’s specific needs.

I’m known for being detail-oriented, reliable, and easy to work with. Clients appreciate that I really take the time to understand their vision and turn it into something that feels like them — not just a cookie-cutter template.

What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with the people I work with. Seeing someone light up when their site launches — knowing it truly represents who they are and what they offer — that’s the best part of what I do.

What sets me apart is my mix of design skill, technical know-how, and personal approach. I don’t just build websites — I help people feel confident in how they show up online.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d just say that if you’re thinking about starting something — whether it’s a business, a creative project, or learning a new skill — don’t wait for everything to be perfect. Just start where you are, stay curious, and trust that you’ll figure it out as you go. That’s been true in my journey, and it’s what keeps me moving forward.

Also, if anyone’s looking to create or refresh their website, I’d love to connect! You can find me at Light Web Design — I’m always excited to work with passionate people bringing their ideas to life.
