Conversations with Carissa Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carissa Scott.

Carissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Years ago when I was working a 9-5, my best friend asked if I’d like to accompany her on wedding days just to carry her bags, hang out and eat good food. What started out as just a fun time on the weekends turned into a desire to have this life myself. Traveling to beautiful places, meeting amazing people and documenting big lifetime moments? It’s truly the dream.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One thing I’ve learned in my almost 10 years is that the road is rarely linear. I used to think it was always uphill! Oh how crazy of me. I think in just realizing things will always ebb and flow makes the journey easier. Things I’ve struggled with are imposter syndrome, slower seasons and the craziness of October – but in the same week, I’ve booked my dream wedding location and work with a new amazing planner. There’s a season for everything – some months, I may need to rest more and work less, others I’m full steam ahead and that’s what keeps it exciting.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an editorial wedding photographer with a documentary twist. I’ve mastered a wonderful balance of being a fly on the wall and allowing things to unfold while also optimizing light, location and my beautiful couples. It’s a delicate push and pull I’m really proud of. I specialize in full wedding experiences filled with intention – from the portraits to the florals to the late night tablescapes that leave behind evidence of your favorite people. These moments are truly once in a lifetime and being able to document everything from the bachelorette weekend to the big day is such an honor!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
