Community Highlights: Meet Anthony Obas of Guided by Obas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Obas.

Hi Anthony , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story is still the same as when I first started to play sports and do media: I was always the underdog. I had a great support system at home. I worked hard in my academics and sports. However, I didn’t have a ton of resources at my disposal. Growing up, I was always at a disadvantage, yet these disadvantages would allow me to rise at moments when people least expected me to rise. I wasn’t athletically gifted at football, track, and other sports, yet somehow, I managed to aid in the success of a championship in both sports. I wasn’t the smartest kid in the school, yet I stayed up til midnight studying for those vocabulary exams. We didn’t have much money as a family, yet somehow, my mom managed to pay for 4 years at an expensive private school. The world would view me as a nerd or wimp, but somehow, people loved the energy I brought to the room. Why? It was never about me. It was always about the people who I could aid in bringing sustainability into my life that wasn’t perfect for me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If it was smooth, you think we would be here talking about it 😂 . The struggles are the best parts. I love the panic attacks in DC when my bank account is low and I have an event coming up that can make me money. I love the idea of getting fired and restarting again, which leads me to a different career path. I love the struggle of people not understanding my path because the path that is chosen for me is only understood by me. I love the awkwardness when you are the only black person in the room, yet you hold the most power in the room on the mic. Without struggle, what are we doing? We need to struggle to redefine our character. We need to struggle to make ourselves entrepreneurs! I love to look at the bright sides of the world over here.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Guided by Obas?
Guided By Obas Inc. is an entertainment consulting agency that enhances a consumer’s experience through Digital Marketing, Event Management, and Brand Development. We handle the ideation process to the final stages of testing and development and aid in launching your product, service, or campaign. Some components of these processes involve digital strategy, content creation, brand identity, and more. The goal is to build sustainability and aid businesses stay afloat in exterior effects. Our primary consumers are creatives, small businesses, and athletes, yet over the years, we have seen families, corporations, and others need to use the services offered. I launched a separate business entity, Hosted by Obas LLC, which extends the event management part, as hosting has been a significant revenue share of my business. One thing I am incredibly proud of in my business is the ability to generate over five figures within a calendar year. Many small businesses fail at that one step to create monthly sustainable revenue. I could use my resources and constantly pitch my business to people. It has led me into a rabbit hole where I have discovered new opportunities that I never knew I could do. I am incredibly proud of those moments and wish they could continue forever.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I AM A NERD!! I still play Pokemon to this day. I will quote every Vegeta line from Dragonball Z. I will cry when Incredible sees Atom Eve almost die. Eren going wild in Attack on Titan is deeper than the plot. When I am tired, I always watch Spongebob movies as a default. These are the things that truly get me away from the business. This allows me to connect with other people where the world may not see them as cool. I bridge the gap for them to enter a comfortable and safe world so they can love what they love without being judged.
