Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan White.
Hi Jonathan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I NEVER imagined I would start an entertainment company! NEVER. I used to be the guy at weddings that loved to get on the dance floor and lead the party as a guest. This led to one of my friends getting married asking me if I would DJ her wedding. When she first asked me to be her DJ I laughed and thought she was crazy. She was persistent in asking me and told me that she would provide the equipment. I finally told her that I would do it for her, but not to expect much since I had never done something like this. After DJing her wedding I realized, I had a blast, the bride had a great time, and I may want to do this again.
It was until I had another friend request me to DJ their wedding in 2017, and the father of the groom called me after saying, “We didn’t expect anyone to dance. If you ever need a reference, please let me know.” that I decided to buy some of my own equipment and give DJing a shot. My goal was to do 5-10 events per year and make a little side cash.
Fast forward to 2025 and Joyful Entertainment has been blessed with the opportunity to take part in over 1,000 events and have earned over 400 – 5 star reviews on Google! We even got the chance to DJ, Clemson and Jacksonville Jaguar star, Trevor Lawrence’s wedding! It has been a fun journey!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road in creating Joyful Entertainment has been filled with blessings and adversity we have had to overcome. At first, we had no idea how to run a business. I went to college to teach and had to learn from people that know a lot more than me about how to efficiently build a business and strong team.
We also had to figure out who our clients are in the entertainment industry. As a Christian, I want my business to honor God in all that I do, and I realized that I needed to communicate upfront that our team will not play music that is explicit, vulgar, or even clean versions of songs that we know will elicit an inappropriate response from guests. Communicating this up front helps us ensure that our clients are on the same page as us, and if they are not, it helps them find a better fit for their needs.
Another struggle of mine early was not delegating enough. I realized after working myself to the ground that I needed to delegate to competent people, and trust them to do their job well, with appropriate training.

Joyful Entertainment specializes in delivering joy to celebrations! Our team does this through excellent service, elite communication, and a joyful spirit at the events we take part in.
