Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicki Degeneffe
Hi Nicki, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Nicki Degeneffe, an artist based in Rock Hill, South Carolina, has been passionately creating art for most of her life, with a primary focus on pottery since 2012. In 2020, a friend gifted her a kiln, which she placed in her carport, and she subsequently purchased a new pottery wheel for her “She Shed.” In 2021, she made the pivotal decision to leave her corporate career and reconnect with her artistic roots. As her pottery creations began to overflow from the shed into her home, it became evident that a larger workspace was necessary. She now operates her studio in the historic downtown area of York, South Carolina.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting my pottery business came with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest struggles was finding the right space. I first set up in Sharon, South Carolina, moving between buildings there, but eventually realized I was in the wrong location. I needed to be closer to my students and my home. The process of creating my space was exciting, but relocating multiple times to find the right fit was tough.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Spinning Out Pottery Studio & Local Artisan Shop Spinning Out Pottery and Local Artisan Shop is my studio and creative space, located at 26A North Congress Street in historic York, South Carolina. It’s more than just a pottery studio—it’s a community of makers. I have over 20 local artisans whose work fills my shop. Everything I sell is handmade by friends and local artists, from pottery and jewelry to handmade cards, local chow chow, and honey. Even the paintings on the walls are for sale! I also teach pottery classes every month. My regular classes run for four weeks, with two-hour sessions each week. For those who want a quick hands-on experience, I offer “throw downs,” which are 90-minute express pottery classes. Signing up is easy through my scheduling app. Beyond my own studio, I love collaborating with other businesses, like Green Space in Rock Hill, where I recently hosted a pinch pot and coil class. It was such a fun experience that I plan to do more of these in the future. If you’re ever in the area, stop by the shop! Whether you’re looking for unique handmade goods or want to get your hands in some clay, there’s always something creative happening at Spinning Out Pottery.?

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love collaborating with other artists, businesses, and anyone who shares a passion for creativity! If you’re interested in working with me—whether it’s for a special class, an event, or a unique project—feel free to reach out. The best way to contact me is via text message or email.
I’ll be honest—I’m terrible on the phone, but I do my best to get back to everyone as soon as I can. Most of the time, my hands are covered in clay, and my phone takes quite a beating! But I truly appreciate every message and opportunity to connect.
Let’s create something amazing together—just shoot me a text or an email, and we’ll make it happen! Thanks for watching!
