Community Highlights: Meet Lacey Grooms of Solar Reflection of Charleston, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Grooms

Lacey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Lacey Grooms, and I am the owner of Solar Reflection of Charleston, a local commercial and residential window tinting company. Solar Reflection is celebrating its 40th year in business this year, which is an incredible milestone!!

I won’t make you hear every detail of my story, but looking back I can see that God set up very specific steps in my life, and put very specific people along my path, to lead me to where I am today. It was a path with lots of stops and many forks in it, lol! What started as a high school job at a local dry cleaners (Shout out to my Smith Family Cleaners crew!) lead me to another job during my college years, and that job lead me to yet another job, which brought me to where I am now. I ran Solar Reflection as the sales and operations manager for just over 15 years, was a minority partner for a few years, and then became sole owner after purchasing the company when my partner was ready to retire in 2023.

I love what I do! It’s a great fit for my personality for sure. I enjoy learning and researching, leading and growing, educating and helping my community. I enjoy networking and being involved in the overall window film industry. I love getting to meet so many people, and getting to work in such diverse and beautiful homes and commercial buildings. We have such an incredible array of architecture here in the LowCountry! One day we’ll work in a new construction custom home with a modern finish, and then the next day we’ll work downtown in a historic home with original, single pane glass windows. It’s great! I get to help business and home owners, contractors, glass companies, architects, and designers make decisions about performance, aesthetics and designs of glass, through the addition of window film treatments. I get to take a wall of clear glass in an office building and add a subtle band of frost to it, which modernizes and enhances the whole appearance and feel of the space. I get to help home and business owners take care of major problems they have with heat and glare and UV rays that are filtering in through their windows. I really do enjoy it! I think one of the most gratifying parts of this, for me, is the feedback and support I receive. Some days it’s a new review that pops up on the internet about the great experience someone had with us, some days its a phone call or an email from someone who was given my name from someone they know that had a great experience, some days its a call or text saying “Lacey, I need your help!” from someone I’ve built a business relationship with that trusts me to help them come up with the best game plan and the best solutions for their window film needs. It’s all such a blessing and shows me that I’m right where I’m supposed to be!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was born and raised by wonderful, hard working parents on James Island, where I still live today. My husband is from the island, we’ve raised our own kids on the island, most of our family and closest friends live on the island … honestly I don’t know if I could ever live anywhere else! Lol! I’ve been very blessed throughout my life. God has been so good to me, and I give Him the glory for everything. I’ve certainly had my share of hills and valleys, both in business and in life, just like we all have, but He has been with me through my highest highs, my lowest lows, and every day in between. There will always be obstacles and challenges that come along…. They’re not fun to get through, but I think we’ve all realized that it’s often those hard times that teach us the most. The tough times are when have the opportunity to really lock in and work the hardest to overcome. We get through those challenges and then we get to look back with confidence as we see our growth! That growth helps us when the next challenge comes around. That growth can also allow us to help others along the way!

As you know, we’re big fans of Solar Reflection of Charleston, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Solar Reflection is a small business in West Ashley that sells and installs window film / window tinting treatments for commercial and residential glass. We have clear UV filter films, tinted films for glare reduction, solar control films to block out heat, privacy films, frosted and etched glass films, safety films to temper glass, security films for storm and intruder protection, and we can even fully customize films to look like anything you can imagine! I have worked hard for many years to build relationships around town with other local businesses and organizations, and it’s such a blessing to see how much of our business comes both directly from those relationships, and from their recommendations. My head installer has been with the company for about 25 years, and he’s definitely one the best in the industry. He does a great job, is very likable and trustworthy, and is a major asset. He’s basically become family now! We have had an A+ BBB rating for over 20 years, and have been given nothing but wonderful reviews online by our awesome clients. When someone reaches out to Solar Reflection, they come directly to me.. I’ll be the one who speaks with them on the phone or through the initial emails, and I’ll be the one who comes to their home or business to measure the glass and review the window film options with them. These on-site meetings and evaluations are always free! We only charge if we perform any of the work that we propose.

Any big plans?
Solar Reflection will always be a local, small business. While we will always represent the best of the best in brands, service and the overall experience, I really enjoy just being a “little guy” …. It allows me to be personally involved in every step, and with every client. As a company, we will always work on growth, in its many forms, but we’ll always stay fairly small.
