Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Jobes
Hi Cory, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I formed the band Sloans Grove in March of 2024. I had been working on a batch of new rock songs for quite some time. When I was ready to start putting everything together, I contacted drummer Jonathan Stephens and bass player Matt Farmer. Luckily, both were available to get a couple rehearsals going to make sure the band would work. Shortly after we needed a vocalist, and I specifically wanted a female vocalist. My first choice was Brittany Garrett. I had been working with her on and off in another project. She came in and laid down some vocals in the studio one day and that solidified the lineup in Sloans Grove. From that point forward, we knew what direction we were going to take the band. We spent March of 2024 – November 2024 recording our debut album. I am proud to say its finished and the final product is in hand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Surprisingly very smooth. Having a lot of creative control and also being surrounded by like-minded musicians that want to play for the song and make it the best it could possibly be has the made the first year of this band very enjoyable.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Sloans Grove recorded a full-length rock album in 2024. We are super proud of the effort we put in. It is personally my favorite project I have ever been a part of. The album will be released on vinyl first March 14th and will hit streaming apps in the summer. Each vinyl copy comes with a hi-res download code as well so you can listen to it on your computer or transfer it to your phone. We would really like to see a bump in people buying physical releases over streaming which is why we are going to release the vinyl first but also still enjoy the digital copy with the code provided inside the album.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When I was a young musician, I thought I had it all figured out (like most young aspiring musicians do). Thankfully, early on I learned that when I was in room with other musicians that were levels beyond me, I would shut up and learn from them. Nothing is more humbling than when you get into a room for a jam session and the musicians you’re playing with are way more advanced. You can sit there while soaking in all the knowledge they are pouring out whether it’s through their playing or the advice they give out to make the song or project better. I would also say approach song writing and playing with a less is more attitude. It opens more doors than you would think.
