Meet Shunnika Goings-Friend of Myrtle Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shunnika Goings-Friend

Hi Shunnika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always loved music and arts ever since I can remember. I would always have mixed tapes with the latest jams from every genre in my backpack throughout my middle and high school years to purchase. I would make a killing when the kids wanted to get their hands on something and I would be the only one to have it because my dad would send me music when he would be stationed overseas. I had things before it was released in the U.S. I knew that I would be doing something in the area of music and arts, but I never thought as a teenager that I would be a DJ. I always wanted to, didn’t think that I could do it. After graduating high school I started hanging around DJs learning the techniques, but I was scared to do it publicly. It wasn’t until 2010 that I did my first gig. One of my friends had double booked himself and it was no one else to cover it. So, he called me and encouraged me to do it. From then on I’ve been doing it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it wasn’t a smooth road. I let others get in my head….others that were afraid to leap. My struggles mostly was with my self esteem and finances. I wanted friends and did not focus on my craft.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m the owner of 80lbs Entertainment Group, LLC. I’m a dj, sound technician, event coordinator, craft and treat maker. I’m most proud of the out the box ideas that I come up with. I don’t try to duplicate what I have done for others even if the client says “I want it just like the picture that I showed you.” I politely tell them that that’s not my work, so I can’t do that.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
There are several ways to work with me. My company specializes in live events, media projects, and creative storytelling, offering opportunities for collaboration in event production, film, music, and entertainment experiences. Whether you’re an artist, producer, sponsor, or industry professional, we welcome partnerships that align with our vision. Support can come through sponsorships, talent collaborations, or simply sharing our work with your network.
