Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Broe Quinn
Hi Jenny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up as an only child with entrepreneurial artist parents, surrounded by creativity in my basement. As a competitive swimmer, I were focused on sports until a pivotal moment when my best friend introduced me to dance. From that point on, dance became my only real passion (until meeting my husband, haha). Hailing from Rhythm Dance Center in Marietta, GA, I quickly realized that teaching dance was my calling. I then attended the University of Georgia in Athens, where I helped cultivate and shape an adult dance community. After moving to Charleston, I founded The Lab in 2016, and since then, I’ve been dedicated to producing shows, training dancers, and developing exceptional instructors. Though I never expected to be a mom, my 2.5 year old son Arlo is now the love of my life. Outside of dance, I enjoy yoga, birding, and spending time with my crazy cats.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life hasn’t always been smooth – it’s had its fair share of bumps. My world was turned upside down when my mother passed away from terminal brain cancer at 60. I’ve been through a marriage, a divorce, and remarried again. I also experienced the heartbreak of a miscarriage before finally bringing my son Arlo into the world, who is truly my everything. As a business owner in the service industry, the challenges of COVID really hit hard. It hasn’t been all rainbows, but each obstacle has shaped me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My forte is making people feel good. Through my dance classes, I bring joy to all kinds of people. I truly believe that dance is in our DNA, and everyone deserves to experience the power of movement in their life and performance. I’m passionate about cultivating artists and performers, and I love fostering a community of both adults and youth at my dance studio. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how dance can connect and inspire people of all ages.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mom. She told me I can do anything – and I believed her.
