Check Out Summer Gossett’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Gossett

Hi Summer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am the co-founder of FamZing Studios, a photography business based in Greenville, South Carolina.

From a young age, I developed a passion for photography, inspired by the many cameras gifted by my grandparents. What started as a simple hobby soon blossomed into a career in the 1990s.

In 2010, my husband (who also loved photography), and I took our shared passion to the next level when we launched FamZing Studios in South Carolina.

Since then, the studio has become known for its vibrant, personalized photography, capturing moments that couples cherish for years and businesses have come to rely on.

FamZing originally started as a husband and wife team and was overcome by the birth of the “Christmas Camera Photographers”. This was about the time period when Best Buy started selling prosumer cameras and everyone was an aspiring photographer. That is what gave us the idea to turn FamZing into a Studio, as we would be able to service a lot more couples with quality, as well as train new photographer on the proper way to shoot, light and pose.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not been without its struggles. The COVID-19 pandemic hit the photography industry hard, and FamZing Studios was no exception. The studio typically handles over 350 events a year, but during the pandemic, over 70 contracts were canceled, and hundreds of weddings had to be rescheduled for 2021 and 2022. This shift created scheduling challenges, as it took up valuable inventory (dates) for those subsequent years. Despite these obstacles, we have adapted, finding creative solutions to ensure we could continue to serve our clients while maintaining the quality and service FamZing Studios is known for.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What’s sets us a part from others is that with over 25 years of photography experience under our belts, we are able to train photographers and videographers in the area to shoot, pose and light properly.

Most of those photographers and videographers came on the team and helped make FamZing what it is today. We are proud that our studio has trained dozens of photographers who have either worked for us or have went on to work in their own successful studios.

Because of this, there have been 1000’s of happy couples over the years and some of our biggest referrals come from couples and other event professionals. This is due to not only the structure and organization that our company has but the personalities of the talent that we hire.

We have over 500, Five Star reviews between Wedding Wire and Google that show how amazing our team is.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Pros of Greenville, SC: Greenville’s downtown area has a strong sense of community, with lots of local shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. The picturesque Falls Park on the Reedy River is a standout feature and adds to the town’s beauty.

Greenville is also family-friendly, with good schools, parks, and recreational activities. There’s also a strong sense of community and Southern hospitality.

The city is surrounded by natural beauty, including the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are also only about 4 hours from the beach.

Some of the cons of our city lately is traffic and growth. While Greenville has a lot to offer, the city has been growing rapidly, and some areas experience heavy traffic during peak hours. Infrastructure development can sometimes lag behind population growth. Also, the public transportation system in Greenville isn’t as extensive as in larger cities, so owning a car is generally necessary to get around comfortably.
