Daily Inspiration: Meet Aaron Guy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Guy

Aaron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in southwest Florida (Port Charlotte to be exact). I started plumbing in 2005. I began plumbing houses and eventually made my way into the commercial / underground side. Thats when I really started to love and appreciate plumbing. There are so many different aspects and each presents its own challenges. Then I realized how much I loved the challenges and trying to overcome them. And all of a sudden work didn’t feel like work as much. I felt like I was feeding my brain and learning everyday, and I loved it. We moved to South Carolina in 2020 (right when Covid hit) to be closer to family. I got a job at one of the biggest plumbing companies in the Charleston area. And in my first year with the company I won the plumber of the year award. Looking back at how many plumbers they had and how good some of them are, I am still pretty proud of that achievement. But just like any large company with share holders, profits are king. And I began to notice a shift in the direction they were heading. All of the focus seemed to be directed towards sales training and not technical training. Guys were no longer encouraged to get their license or education. It was all pressure to sell, and sell the most. This made me unhappy. I’m not a salesman at heart, I’m a plumber. I enjoy solving the problem, not the person. So in 2023 we started our own company (Low Coast Plumbing). And work didn’t feel like work anymore. It felt like I was doing something good again, helping people. And that is our main focus, treating people how we would want to be treated. I feel like that is the only way for small businesses to succeed. You can’t go wrong if you do the right thing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far so good. Our biggest challenge has probably been logistics. You don’t realize the amount of materials and planning involved just to get a truck in the driveway. It took us a couple months to get where we needed to be. But we are hitting our stride. And we are looking forward to new challenges as we grow.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a plumbing service company. Our main focus is mostly in home repair and renovation. We specialize in water heaters, water filtration, sewer and drains. We also enjoy doing complete kitchen or bathroom renovations. I believe what sets us apart is our knowledge, experience, quality of work and materials. As a small company it is very important to do the best possible job with the best possible materials the first time. It is never worth having an upset customer because I tried to save $40 in materials. We believe that if you treat someone right, they will tell 2 people. But if you treat them wrong they will tell 100. What I’m most proud of is how much we care. We care about the work we do and how the person feels about the entire experience. When someone needs a plumber it’s often a stressful situation. We want you to know we have your back. And we will get through this together.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love everything about Summerville. When we left Florida I was nervous. I grew up there, that’s all I knew. But SC has been amazing and I am so grateful to be here. What I like least about the city?… Traffic, we were all thinking it.

Pricing:

  • As far as pricing goes, it is always easier for us to see the project or situation in person. Because there are so many variables involved in plumbing. Each house is different. Therefore it is difficult to give an accurate price or estimate over the phone without seeing the whole picture. That is why we have no problems giving our customers free on-site estimates.
