Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Hatziemanuel
Hi Casey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From Teacher to Trainer: Finding Purpose in Fitness and Community
For four years, I was a public school teacher, and I absolutely loved being in the classroom. Teaching was my passion, but the education system was mentally draining, and over time, I realized I needed a change. While I stepped away from the classroom, my desire to help others never faded—I just had to find a new way to do it.
Fitness had always been an important part of my life, and in January 2024, I finally took the leap and earned my Lagree certification. Teaching Lagree felt natural to me; I fell in love with guiding people through their workouts and watching them grow stronger, both physically and mentally. Helping clients push past their limits and gain confidence in themselves gave me the same sense of fulfillment I once found in teaching.
By August 2024, I stepped into the role of studio manager at Form Charleston, a space that has become so much more than just a fitness studio—it’s a community. I get to work alongside an amazing group of women in the most beautiful space, and every day, I witness clients showing up for themselves and supporting each other. That sense of connection and belonging is what makes this work so special to me.
This past winter, I had the opportunity to bring two of my passions—fitness and giving back—together in a way that truly meant the world to me. I organized a giving tree at the studio, allowing our incredible clients to purchase gifts for students in need, many of whom were my former students. Partnering with two local elementary schools, we were able to make the holidays a little brighter for so many children. It was a full-circle moment—finding a way to impact students’ lives outside the classroom while building something meaningful within my new career.
Stepping away from teaching was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made, but I know now that my purpose has never changed. Whether in a classroom or a studio, my passion is helping others grow—and I’ve found the perfect place to do just that.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For four years, I was a public school teacher, and I truly loved it. I had earned my master’s degree, built strong relationships with my students, and created a safe space where they could learn and grow. I knew I was making a difference, and that feeling was incredibly fulfilling. But over time, the weight of the education system became overwhelming.
Teaching is more than just a job—it’s a commitment, a lifestyle. The mental and emotional toll it takes is something people don’t always see. I poured so much of myself into my students, and while I never regretted that, I started to feel drained in a way that didn’t go away. I struggled with the demands of a system that often felt impossible to navigate. The pressure, the long hours, the emotional burden of knowing some students carried struggles far beyond the classroom—it all added up.
Still, the idea of leaving terrified me. I had worked so hard to get where I was. I had a degree, experience, and a passion for teaching, so how could I just walk away? What if I was making a mistake? What if I left behind the one thing I was truly good at?
Beyond that, there was the fear of the unknown. Teaching was stable. It was familiar. Stepping into something new—something without guarantees—was unsettling. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to build a new career for myself, or if I’d regret leaving the one I had. I had no idea if fitness would work out for me.
But I also knew that life is too short to stay in something that no longer brings you joy. I had always loved fitness, and I finally decided to pursue my Lagree certification in January 2024. Even after getting certified, I still had doubts. Would I be able to make a living? Would I find the same kind of fulfillment?
It wasn’t until I started teaching that I realized something important: my purpose had never been about the job title. It had always been about helping others grow, giving them a space to feel safe and empowered. And I was still doing that—just in a different way.
Even now, I sometimes miss the classroom. I miss the relationships, the small moments with students, the way each year brought new challenges and new connections. But I also know that I’m where I’m supposed to be. Transitioning to a new career wasn’t easy, and there were moments of doubt, fear, and uncertainty. But choosing happiness, choosing myself, was the right decision. And that’s something I’ll never regret.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I teach Lagree fitness, which is a high-intensity, low-impact workout performed on a Megaformer. It’s designed to build strength, endurance, and muscle tone through slow, controlled movements that create constant tension. Lagree is incredibly effective because it pushes your muscles to fatigue while being gentle on the joints, making it accessible for all fitness levels.
I specialize in helping clients build both physical and mental strength. Lagree is tough—it challenges people in ways they don’t expect, and I love being the person who helps them push through that discomfort. I focus on coaching proper form, mind-muscle connection, and mental resilience so clients leave feeling stronger and more empowered after every class.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built. Transitioning from teaching to fitness, I wasn’t sure if I’d find the same sense of purpose, but I have. I love watching clients grow in their confidence and strength, seeing them achieve things they never thought possible. And beyond that, I’m proud of the community we’ve created at Form Charleston. It’s not just about working out—it’s about showing up for yourself, feeling supported, and being part of something bigger.
What sets me apart is my background in education. Teaching gave me the skills to connect with people, break down complex movements in a way that makes sense, and create a space where everyone feels welcome and encouraged. I understand that every client has different needs, and I bring the same level of patience and motivation that I did in the classroom. I don’t just lead workouts—I teach, I support, and I help people grow.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely! One of my favorite resources is *The Dave Ramsey Show*. I love learning about finance, money management, and how to live a free and purposeful life. His approach to financial freedom and smart decision-making has helped shape my mindset when it comes to both personal and professional goals.
I also enjoy listening to *The Mel Robbins Podcast*. Her perspective on motivation, mindset shifts, and overcoming self-doubt is something I find incredibly valuable. She has a way of breaking down big challenges into actionable steps, which helps me stay focused and push through moments of uncertainty.
Both of these resources have helped me grow—not just in my career, but in my overall approach to life. They remind me to be intentional with my choices, whether it’s in fitness, business, or personal growth.
