Inspiring Conversations with Amy Randall of Amy Randall Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Randall

Hi Amy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Photography has been a passion since I got my first camera in middle school. What began as a childhood curiosity evolved into a lifelong journey. I studied photography at the Fine Arts Center in Greenville during my senior year of high school, and later majored in Art—with an emphasis on photography— at Winthrop University. I started my career as an assistant to commercial photographers in Greenville, moving swiftly into roles as a producer and rep, exploring the freelance world, and even selling cameras before joining Erwin Penland, South Carolina’s largest ad agency. In January 2015, I founded Amy Randall Photography, specializing in professional portraits, lifestyle, location, and corporate & nonprofit events. I love connecting with diverse people and organizations and proudly offer discounts to nonprofits since I love working with those who make a real difference in our community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Being an entrepreneur comes with its share of challenges. There have been days when I worried about where my next job would come from, weekends spent on tasks I dread—like tracking expenses and billing—and times when I struggled to balance growing my business with raising my daughter, being a wife, and serving as a community activist. And don’t get me started on the pandemic! I survived that partially thanks to a friend alerting me about PPP funding. Fortunately, the unwavering support of my family and friends, along with Greenville’s vibrant and diverse community, has made all the difference. My network of fellow entrepreneurs and Rotarian friends has been invaluable in helping me navigate the ups and downs of this journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Amy Randall Photography, we specialize in capturing professional portraits, lifestyle imagery, location shots, and vibrant corporate and nonprofit event photography. My work is all about telling your unique story with creativity and authenticity. What sets Amy Randall Photography apart is my ability to make people feel completely at ease in front of the camera. I believe you don’t have to be photogenic—you just need a great photographer. I’m on a mission to replace generic stock photography with real people and real places.

I am committed not only to creating beautiful images but also to building partnerships that honor the individuality of each client by telling their story in a unique and compelling way. I offer special discounts to nonprofit organizations because I’m passionate about supporting those who make a real difference in our community and around the world. Ultimately, Amy Randall Photography is about capturing moments that matter and delivering a visual story that reflects your vision and values.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Greenville’s supportive community—it’s diverse and inclusive, celebrates the arts, and champions nonprofits. The food scene is fantastic, and I enjoy being so close to the mountains and the scenic Furman University campus. If I had to choose one downside, it would be the challenge of parking downtown.
