Today we’d like to introduce you to Trinite Nettles
Hi Trinite, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2015 I worked third shift at a local hospital, and I hated my job. Every free chance I got I was job searching and researching different career fields. One night while I was scrolling through social media, I kept seeing ads for esthetics school. I did not know what an esthetician was, but I searched the job description and the future job outlook; the starting salary was the same amount as I was making at that time so I said to myself, ” If I’m going to be broke, I might as well be happy.” I asked everyone I knew what they about the idea, I prayed about it too! After really thinking it over I took a tour and enrolled in esthetic school the following week.
I got my esthetics license May 2016 and to further my education, I got my sugaring hair removal certification soon after. Finding my first esthetics job was challenging. I still worked full time at the hospital and my first esthetics job offer was not great. While I was at my sugaring appointment, I was telling my esthetician about it, and she offered me an interview on the spot. I got hired and worked at Body Sugaring and Wellness Spa for seven years before branching out on my own. March 2023 was my first day being a completely solo esthetician. As my second-year anniversary is approaching I’ve started out this year in a completely new suite in an up-and-coming area. I’m excited for the new possibilities ahead.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Working in the beauty industry comes with its challenges. Being self-employed is even more challenging. Both require an insane amount of faith, in God in yourself. You really have to trust the process. Even with esthetics school, I still worked full time and made-up school hours I missed on the weekends. I paid out of pocket for my tuition because financial aid wasn’t available at the time. I didn’t always have the funds for the things I needed but it has always worked out. Deciding to leave a steady clientele and work completely for myself was a bumpy road. There were a lot of things I did not know that I had to learn as I went along. I’m still learning but I wouldn’t change a thing because the difficulties have made me stronger.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner and operator of Simplicity Day Spa. I specialize in sugaring hair removal. I love what I do! I’m known for hair removal and Brazilians. I think the thing that sets me apart is passion for my craft. I take my work very seriously and I try to be there for my clients and create a safe space for them to relax a little. I’m proud of my results, it makes me happy to see my clients leave happy with a smile on their face. I also offer facials, vajacials and yoni steaming. I also make body oils. body scrubs and body butters. I want everyone to have access to great skincare. Everyone should be able to feel luxury, whether it’s from your favorite body scrub or just being smooth after a sugaring service. There’s beauty in simplicity, self-care and skin care don’t have to be complicated.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
If you asked those close to me, they would describe me as a risk-taker. I don’t view myself that way, I just follow my gut feelings. I quit my full-time job of 8 years to practice esthetics full time. I left the only spa job I’ve ever known after 7 years to work on my own. I moved into a new suite in a new area just this year. I have learned that you have to trust yourself along the way. Instead of focusing on what could potentially go wrong you have to focus on what could go right. I’ll try new things even when I am scared. My fears don’t define me, what I do with that fear defines who I am. Things always work out. Even if I decided to change careers that would be ok too because there is nothing wrong with starting over. I always encourage others to take the risk and bet on themselves.
