Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We (Beach Loveland and Jessica Loveland) have always had a deep passion for coffee—not just for the craft itself, but for the sense of community it fosters. With over 20 years in the specialty coffee industry and more than 25 years in the service industry, Beach, alongside his wife, Jessica, set out to create something more than just a coffee shop. We envisioned a space where people could connect, feel cared for, and experience high-quality coffee rooted in integrity and excellence—all guided by our faith.
That dream first took shape when Beach became a barista and later managed a coffeehouse in a nearby town. The ultimate goal was to open a storefront in Irmo, South Carolina. However, our perspective shifted when the opportunity to open a drive-thru kiosk presented itself. With the overwhelming support of our local community, we launched a successful Kickstarter campaign, leading to the grand opening of the Loveland Coffee Drive-Thru Kiosk in December 2012. From day one, our mission was clear: to serve exceptional coffee with top-tier customer service.
As our passion for quality continued to grow, we launched Loveland Coffee Roastery in 2016, where Beach began roasting small-batch, single-origin, certified fair trade organic coffee. Committed to mastering our craft, Beach traveled to Boot Coffee Campus in San Francisco in 2017, completing an intensive month of coursework to earn the prestigious Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) Certified Roastmaster designation.
In late 2019, we found the perfect location to expand their vision—building a space that would house our roasting facility and the largest café in the Columbia area. After months of dedication and hard work, Loveland Coffee Café & Roastery officially opened in Irmo in the winter of 2020.
From a small drive-thru to a thriving roastery and café, Loveland Coffee has remained steadfast in its commitment to quality, community, and connection. Every cup tells a story—one of passion, perseverance, and a deep love for the people we serve.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any worthwhile journey, ours has come with its share of roadblocks. When we first started, social media wasn’t nearly as powerful as it is today, so we relied heavily on word-of-mouth and community support to build awareness. Every customer connection mattered, and creating a loyal following took time and dedication.
Financially, we poured nearly everything back into the business in the early days, stepping out in faith that this was what we were meant to do. There was no safety net—just a deep belief in our vision and the determination to make it work. Opening our storefront was another huge leap of faith. We purchased our building right before COVID hit, which brought an entirely new set of challenges. Opening a café in the middle of a global pandemic was far from easy, but we adapted, pivoted where needed, and pushed forward, trusting that we were on the right path.
On a personal level, Beach and I have faced significant health challenges over the years, making business ownership even more demanding. At the same time, we were raising three little ones, balancing the chaos of parenthood with the relentless demands of entrepreneurship. There were many long days and sleepless nights, but our passion for what we were building—and the unwavering support of our community—kept us moving forward.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my most cherished childhood memories revolves around coffee. After spending the night at my grandparents’ house, I would wake up early, climb into their bed, and sip on a small cup of coffee while watching the sunrise out the window. It was a simple yet special ritual—one that made me feel warm, loved, and connected. Looking back, I realize that those quiet moments weren’t just about the coffee itself, but about togetherness, comfort, and the feeling of being present in a meaningful moment.
That memory has stayed with me and, in many ways, shaped my passion for coffee today. At Loveland Coffee, we strive to create those same kinds of moments for others—where a great cup of coffee brings people together and turns ordinary mornings into something memorable.
