Today we’d like to introduce you to Regis Mcelveen
Hi Regis , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Biography of Regis McElveen
Regis McElveen, a proud native of Florence, South Carolina, has built a thriving career in the beauty industry, with a passion for hair that began in her childhood. Growing up in the salon, Regis was captivated by the transformative power of hairstyling, and from an early age, she knew that one day she would be in the business of making women feel and look beautiful—whether through hair or fashion.
Regis’ formal journey into cosmetology began in high school when she enrolled in a cosmetology program, obtaining her cosmetology license in May 2009, even before she graduated. Eager to expand her expertise, Regis moved to Charleston, South Carolina, to attend The Art Institute of Charleston, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Fashion and Retail Management. Throughout her college years, Regis worked at JCPenney Salon in The Citadel Mall, gaining valuable experience in team building and product knowledge. During this time, she participated in certified training sessions with leading professional brands such as Redken, Matrix, Mizani, Design Essentials, and Affirm.
Determined to take her career to new heights, Regis and a coworker decided to branch off from JCPenney and open their own salon suite, eventually founding *Sleek Reflections Salon*. As time passed, each member of the team branched off to pursue their individual paths in the beauty industry, but Regis continued to grow her own brand and clientele.
In addition to her salon suite, Regis is a Design Essentials educator, sharing her expertise with others in the industry. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and balances her career with the joys of being a wife and mother.
Regis is grateful every day for the opportunity to do what she loves—helping clients feel confident and beautiful through her craft. With many goals still ahead of her, she remains committed to pushing the boundaries of the beauty industry and making a lasting impact.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s been a journey full of growth and resilience. Balancing school, work, and starting a business was challenging, especially when I branched out from JCPenney to operating the salon suite. The struggles taught me the importance of consistency in business and managing both the business and craft sides of my career. What I’ve learned over the past 15 years is that to see real growth, you have to be disciplined with your time, staying focused on both your passion and the behind-the-scenes work that keeps your business thriving. It’s that balance that keeps me passionate about what I do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in precise haircuts, color, multicultural textured styling, commercial hair styling, wedding and event hair, as well as healthy hair care. My goal is to make every client look and feel fabulous, and I take great pride in not just delivering great results but also educating them on the importance of proper hair care.
What sets me apart is my focus on creating healthy, strong hair from the inside out. I believe that pampering your hair and nourishing it with the right care is the key to achieving long-lasting beauty. Whether it’s a bold color transformation or a sophisticated style for a special event, I ensure my clients leave with not only a stunning look but also the knowledge to maintain their hair’s health.
I’m most proud of the lasting relationships I’ve built with my clients over the years. It’s a true privilege to help people feel more confident in themselves through my work, and I’m grateful for the trust they place in me to enhance their beauty.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by booking salon services like haircuts, color, styling, and healthy hair care consultations. I’m also open to collaborations with other beauty, fashion, and event professionals. Supporting me on social media, sharing my work, or referring clients is always appreciated. Additionally, my goal is to expand my salon, and I’m looking forward to connecting with mentors in the beauty industry to help make that happen.
