Life & Work with Demetrius Bing of Ladson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetrius Bing

Hi Demetrius, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well I started at 29 when I realized my traumas, pain, negative relationships, and insecurities have festered over the years. I finally erupted and wanted to put my pain into a productive and constructive use. The life of a child no father in house, sexual molestation, growing up no lights and no water some days. It created an individual that wanted to be bigger than his past. One day i decided I wanted to paint so I went to dollar tree and bought canvas and paint to try it out then fell in love with it immediately. One canvas a day led to 3-5 a day mini pieces. So I continued painting and later started gain attention and notoriety for my works.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
More smooth than rough a couple instances. My art has opened doors quickly for me due to my striking pieces and quick turnover in creating new pieces. I enjoyed all the things that come with it

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in abstract expressionism form. Im known for my color combinations , striking strokes, the imagery, and the masks in most of my pieces.

Im proud I became the 40th anniversary Moja poster artist from my painting, “Sometimes I cry” that was chosen. Im proud of my first solo show”Full Circle”that had 300 in attendance. Im proud my mom was able to see me be good at my passion and to be recognized for it.
Im also proud 3 of my pieces to be in my home gallery, “soul haus” in Columbia ,sc.

My work ethic, my ability to make the viewer feel my emotion from my pieces, how appreciative and how easy I am to talk to my audience face to face. I feel my art lets people know its okay to feel every emotion as a human.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe when I asked God to show me this was my purpose, he has proven to me in so many different ways. When sometimes I doubted myself if Im good enough. Coming from the hustle lifestyle working multiple jobs its a completely different mindset
