Daily Inspiration: Meet Ej Rosa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ej Rosa

Hi EJ, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My photography journey began in childhood when my Grandma sent disposable Kodak and Fujifilm cameras from the US in the 1990s. I loved playing with them and developing the films at the Photo Lab, fostering my passion for photography.

In 2016, I moved to England for work as a nurse and bought my dream camera, the Fujifilm XT-20. Living in Woolwich, South East London, I found the city’s diverse population and landscapes perfect for honing my street photography skills.

In 2019, I moved to the US and accepted a contract in Charleston, SC. The experiences and life in England helped me adjust to South Carolina. Although the transition was challenging, photography played a significant role in helping me adapt to living independently. I appreciate the landscape of the low country, which is evident in my photos, leading to the creation of EJ Rosa Photography.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Each experience is distinctive and to seize this opportunity, I had to make significant sacrifices, such as being away from my family in the Philippines and relatives in California. Adapting to diverse cultures, traditions, and overcoming language barriers has been challenging, but these experiences have shaped me into the person I am today, humbled by the struggles and guided by the mantra “Never Give Up.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a nurse by profession and a photographer at heart, my photographic work is deeply inspired by nature. I strive to incorporate a human element whenever possible and seek out candid moments. I make it a point to fully immerse myself in each location, ensuring that I capture the right timing and emotion with my camera.

Art has always been and will always be my passion. My keen eye for detail sets me apart from others, and I take great pride in bringing joy to those who appreciate my work as well as to myself.

What matters most to you?
What matters to me goes beyond the lens of my camera. It’s about capturing the fleeting moments that tell a story, evoke emotion, and preserve memories. Photography isn’t just a hobby; it’s a way of life that allows me to connect with the world around me.

As a nurse, my profession demands compassion, patience, and dedication. These qualities echo in my photography, where I strive to capture the essence of humanity and the beauty of nature. What matters to me is the ability to merge my passion for helping others with my love for capturing life’s moments.
This duality defines who I am and drives me to continuously improve, never losing sight of the mantra that guides me: “Never Give Up.”

In the end, what matters to me is making a difference, whether through the care I provide to my patients or through the images I create that bring joy and inspiration to others. This is my life’s work, my passion, and my purpose.
