Mikey Lee is a British-born DJ with over 20 years of event experience, whose musical journey is as vibrant and dynamic as the soundscapes he creates. Mikey Lee’s journey to becoming an award-winning DJ and event entertainer is rooted in his humble beginnings as the only boy in a family of six children. Growing up in a bustling household, music was a central part of his upbringing. With a diverse range of musical influences flowing through his home, from his parents’ love of Two Tone and Reggae, to the energetic beats of his siblings’ playlists, Mikey was surrounded by the sounds that would later shape his own musical identity. As a young boy, Mikey developed a deep appreciation for music, and it became his outlet for self-expression. Whether he was singing along to his favorite songs, performing in plays, or creating makeshift instruments, Mikey’s natural musical talent quickly emerged.
Mikey started his musical career with live performances, where he sang at bars and clubs in Spain. However, his true passion for DJing ignited during his time living on the picturesque island of Ibiza. It was here that Mikey transitioned from live singing to DJing, drawn to the creative freedom and energy that came with curating the perfect soundtracks for unforgettable nights.
His career took him to DJ on one of the biggest cruise liners of Carnival , where he performed and DJed for global audiences, captivating thousands with his exceptional skills behind the decks. Mikey’s infectious energy and natural ability to read the crowd made him a favorite among partygoers. It was while working on board a cruise, that he met Katelin, now his wife and mother to their beautiful daughter Riley. Their journey together soon took them to Katelins home base of Charleston, South Carolina, where Mikey decided to settle down and take his love for music in a new direction. There, he founded ML Event Entertainment, an award-winning wedding DJ company that has become renowned for its unforgettable wedding celebrations and expertly curated playlists. Mikey’s passion for music, combined with his extensive performance background and his innate ability to create the perfect atmosphere, has made him a sought-after name in the wedding and event industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Mikey Lee has faced and overcome several challenges since establishing his DJ business here in Charleston, SC. Transitioning from a successful DJ career performing across Europe and aboard some of the largest cruise ships in the world to setting up a local business required significant adjustments. He had to build a whole new client base from scratch in a very competitive market, establish a local reputation, and adapt his services and DJ style to meet the specific preferences of Charleston’s clientele.
Despite these challenges, Mikey Lee’s dedication and expertise have led to notable achievements. His company has been recognized with multiple awards, including the “Best of Weddings & Couples Choice ‘Hall of Fame’ Award” from The Knot/Wedding Wire and being voted Charleston’s Choice for best party entertainment service by the Post & Courier.

With wedding trends evolving faster than ever thanks to the influence of social media, more couples will seek specialized, personalized services.
