Hidden Gems: Meet Stacia McNeil-Dawson of Awendaw Sanitation Services LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacia McNeil-Dawson

Hi Stacia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Awendaw Sanitation Services stems from a desire
to better support the residents of rural Charleston County
The void of residential trash collection services
presented negative impacts on many fronts
• Inconvenient transport of waste to local
dumps in personal vehicles
• Aging population with mobility limitations
• New subdivisions & relocations with no
dedicated residential trash services

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Its been a journey of growth, not always smooth but the kind words and gratitude from customers have been a constant source of motivation. We’ve faced challenges like finding reliable diesel mechanics and employment, but these obstacles have only strengthened our resolve. As entrepreneurs, we know the road ahead wont be easy, but with perseverance and determination, we can push through challenges and real rewarding outcomes.

We’ve been impressed with Awendaw Sanitation Services LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Awendaw Sanitation Services is a locally-owned and operated business headquartered in Awendaw, South Carolina — a rural community within Charleston County. Although there are two garbage dump locations within driving distance of Awendaw, residents did not have access to a garbage collection service. For years, residents had to load garbage in their personal vehicles, or for elderly residents, wait for a neighbor to assist with taking their garbage to one of those the dump sites.

In 2022, husband and wife, Stacia and Corey Dawson started Awendaw Sanitation Services with the goal of offering curbside waste collection to rural residents of Charleston County who currently rely on remote county garbage dump sites. Awendaw Sanitation Company currently services rural areas of Charleston County including Awendaw, McClellanville, Buckhall, Tibwin, Jamestown, Huger, and Shulerville.

Our Vision is to build a business that will take care of garbage collection for the rural
areas, major residential estates, and commercial properties
 Our mission is to deploy professional and environmentally friendly ways of garbage
collections in the rural areas we want to become a standard of how garbage collection
companies should operate in the whole of the United States of America
 We intend starting the business with a handful of full-time employees and some of the
available driving roles will be handled by qualified contract drivers. Adequate provision
and competitive packages have been prepared for all our employees.

Awendaw Sanitation Services also provides waste removal for large events, corporate which we had the pleasure of partnering with B.O.S.C.H for their 50th Anniversary, Ride the Lowcountry, Macedonia High School Class Reunion and many other local events. We provide waste containers, staff and additional services.

With a clear vision for positive change in rural areas, I took the first step towards making a difference. Our modest beginning with a pickup truck and a trailer have paved the way for steady progress towards our goal. As our business grows we’re committed to delivering exceptional service and making a lasting impact on our community. We’re not perfect but we strive for excellence, fueled by consistency and dedication. This is beyond me I’m eager to witness the fruits of our labor. One step at a time.
