Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Faith Appleton
Hi Rebekah Faith, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My parents have always loved music – my Mom listens to many genres, but she specifically loves 70s-90s country like Don Williams, Allison Krauss, and Reba McCentire, and then my dad loves a lot of older rock and roll like Bob Seger and The Eagles, and also that 2000’s rock, like Bowling For Soup. Both of them also love indie/folk music, so we’re always listening to music, and we always have been. Music has been in my life since the beginning, so it feels like it’s truly apart of who I am.
I’ve had this passion for singing since I was younger, and I would dance and sing “Big Green Tractor” by Jason Aldean, while standing on our cushioned dining room bench. It was great, so funny, and we have videos of that! I would also sit front row at my mom’s choir practice at church, and sing praises with them!
Then when I was ages 10-12, my parents enrolled me into music lessons, because they of course noticed how much music meant to me, and how much I admired it, and that offered some opportunities for me to sing and play out in public, which introduced me at a young age to busking/gigging. So through that, I learned to stay brave when playing for crowds of people.
So, today I do play around the Charleston area, but I’m actually planning on going on a little tour along the south to hopefully gain outside support, and do what I love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
You know, I’ve been very blessed with the support that people have given me. Of course my family and friends, but also complete strangers. I’ve worked with people that are so kind, and easy to work with, and for that I am very grateful. It is sometimes difficult, however, to set up shows, and have things align. Sometimes people don’t respond to inquiries about live entertainment, so I usually move onto other places, and circle back to them later, hoping for a response.
It’s also difficult maintaining being an artist, and attending school. I’m currently a Junior in High School, so I want to keep things in balance – I want to maintain good grades, but I also want to play music, so some days I realize that I’ve focused too much on school to where I haven’t incorporated enough time into my music. I look forward to being able to put forth pretty much all of my time, to work hard at what I love to do, and summer break gives me a taste as to what that could feel and be like.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, my name is Rebekah Faith, and I am an independent musician/singer/songwriter. I play music at various events and locations around the Charleston and Mount Pleasant area, but I’m also currently arranging a little tour along the coast this summer to let more people hear my music.
I create music, I play music, and I love music. My goal is to create music that people can bask in and feel refreshed, because it made them feel something extraordinary.
I would say music-wise, what sets me apart from others, or other musicians, is that I just play more older music, and I really want my music to carry the same vibe of my favorite oldies. I’m not too interested in a whole lot of modern music (other than some indie/folk) because, I just feel that the older songs have more emotional depth whether it be in the lyrics, or how the music or instruments are played. Really just in every touch of the song.
p.s – I will post my mini tour locations soon, and I encourage you to join in on the fun! If you’d like to give a listen to my music, I have one song called Filing Cabinet out on all streaming services, and I’m also working on a song right now with a friend of mine, so stay tuned for that!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising about me would maybe be that I am 17. I usually don’t reveal my age to people unless they ask, because I want to still maintain professionalism, but then eventually they may hint, or ask, and it does shock them a little when I tell them my age. Another, maybe surprising thing, would be that I learned violin before I learned to play the guitar, because I just enjoyed the sound of the violin first, and it really stood out to me. When I was probably around 5, I found my love for the violin (based off of its pretty sound), and because there were no places for lessons in my area at the time, I began learning how to play when I was 10, because we moved to a place where my elementary school had actually offered lessons! So that was a wonderful, wonderful opportunity, and I’m extremely grateful for that because I still play violin today!
