Today we’d like to introduce you to Jefferson Rojas
Hi Jefferson, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey in Colombia, where I pursued a career in engineering. Seeking better opportunities, I emigrated with my wife, Lina Parra, a dedicated English and Spanish teacher, and our son. Starting a new life in a different country was challenging, but it strengthened my resilience and adaptability.
Here, my family grew as we welcomed our daughter nearly two years ago. Alongside balancing family life, I discovered a passion for stand-up comedy, performing in English. This helped me build confidence, connect with others, and embrace the cultural transition with humor.
Currently, I’m pursuing a Master of Science in Project Management to enhance my professional growth and expand career opportunities. My journey has been defined by determination, adaptability, and the drive to create a better future for my family.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Initially, we expected this to be a temporary journey to gain experience before returning to our family in Colombia. However, the violence in my country took someone very dear to us—my younger brother. This tragedy forced us to extend our process in the United States, turning
what we thought was a temporary stay into a longer-term commitment.
Despite this painful chapter, we embraced the idea of contributing as much as we can to the beautiful community of Beaufort, which welcomed us with open arms. This is why I decided to pursue a Master of Science in Project Management here—so I can grow professionally and give back more effectively to the companies and people who have supported us along the way. This journey has been shaped by challenges, but also by the determination to honor my family and create a meaningful impact.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have a diverse professional background, with six degrees ranging from a technical diploma in culinary arts to a degree in Electromechanical Engineering, along with a specialization in Project Management. Soon, I’ll also hold two master’s degrees, further solidifying my expertise. My career has allowed me to work with various companies on long-term projects, focusing on maintenance, design, and planning.
One of the aspects I’m most proud of is the opportunity to travel across the United States, offering my services wherever they are needed. Currently, for instance, I’m in San Jose, California, contributing to projects that demand precision, innovation, and effective leadership.
What sets me apart is the combination of my technical skills, extensive education, and hands-on experience across multiple industries. This unique blend allows me to adapt to different challenges and provide tailored solutions that make a measurable impact. My ability to balance this dynamic career while continuously learning and growing is something I take great pride in.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about Beaufort is the tranquility and the kindness of its people, as well as the beautiful landscapes and beaches that make it such a special place to live.
What I like least, and I admit I’m part of the problem for Beaufort’s original residents, is the gentrification. So many people are moving here that even driving is becoming a stressful task!
