Life & Work with Eddie Martin of Tamassee, SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Martin

Hi Eddie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My wife Lynne and I formed our band Conservation Theory in tribute to roots music and original song writing. As a band we traveled all over the east and into the midwest playing fantastic venues and one day realized we needed to bring our experience playing home to Oconee county and create a venue like we appreciated and share with other musicians and the listening public the wonderful experiences we had while being traveling troubadours. We also enjoy a very good beer so a tap room/brewery (eventually) music venue was the vision to promote. It was our pleasure to bring to our community a place which melded all our favorite things into a family friendly venue where that atmosphere is at the fore.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Bureaucracy places an undue burden on small businesses. We are surprised that any small business makes it past a certain point after continually dealing with that mess. Luckily we have been afforded support from musicians, our listeners and patrons and we have had a good measure of success, enough to keep our heads far enough above water to be viable. We are active in the political spectrum and rise to the occasion when a need arises. Right now we are fighting for tort reform in the South Carolina legislature as there are laws in place, Joint and Several Liability laws, that have caused insurers to stop writing policies in this state. Insurance rates have gone up 75 to over 300 %, which is killing venues like ours.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As Appalachian Folk, bluegrass, original songwriters we look at things from a roots perspective. Our whole outlook is to present a craft side of music and artistry that seems to be absolutely lost on corporate production. Let the freak flag fly and the soul speak from the inner essence

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If you are a creative musical artist reach out to us and we will see if you fit what we do. If you are an original music lover,
a creative empathetic, come and experience Jocassee Valley Brewing and all we bring to your listening and libation experience
