Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Braswell
Hi Casey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved art and loved to be creative. I also took photography in school and found that I could also create art from photography. Fast forward to after I became a wife and mom. My husband, Stephen encouraged me to pick back up where I left off from school. He surprised me with a Nikon D3200 one Christmas and I started playing around with it, using it in different ways and creating filters within the camera. I enjoyed it so much and constantly used my friends and family as my models. Eventually, my husband started to see that I could and should make this into a side business. He knew that my confidence in myself needed some work so, he slowly started nudging me out of my comfort zone and would ask his colleagues if any of them would like to have me take pictures for them. His plan worked, the more my clients were pleased, the more my confidence grew. I love getting to know the story behind the smiles of all that I came in contact with. Knowing the “story” helps you tell their story without using words. One photograph can tell you all about the beautiful soul within the photo. I’ve now owned my own photography business since 2017. I love it just as much today, as I did from day one.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think learning the editing and format part of photography was probably the most difficult thing to learn. Navigating around all of the editing features that are now available to us is unreal. You really do have to “grow when technology grows”. I am a hands on learner and when I find my way around everything and learn the ins and outs of how each editing tool works, I can really dig my feet into my work. I have found that I prefer Lightroom above all others. Once I found a particular editing style that I was happy with, editing became so much more fun.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I strive to run my photography business like a ministry. I pray over my clients and ask God to send me who He wants me to meet. I’ve been blessed to witness and take part in the most intimate and inspiring moments in some of my clients lives. Capturing babies take their first breath of life coming into this world, couples making lifelong commitments before God and their families, graduates taking their first steps into adulthood and so much more. I think what makes me different is the way I see each person. Everyone deserves to be known, seen & understood. They all deserve love because the Lord loves them and we are to love them too.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I’m going to continue to allow the Lord to lead me, He has never led me astray. I do hope to grow my business further and of course I look forward to meeting new people. I’ve had some unexpected experiences that have changed the way I view life. God is showing me and teaching me to rely on Him and He will lead the way.
