Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Stegall
Hi Kelsey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2013, I started a career as an educator because I wanted to help people, but did not quite know how. With a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Minor in Psychology, I set off to rural Louisiana. While I loved teaching and connecting with high schoolers, it was not my calling. It was not the thing that made me excited to wake up every morning.
I reflected on my past, on my education and career shadowing. I quickly realized that physical therapy was my passion. But a subset of physical therapy. In 2017, I started a Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the Medical University of South Carolina with the goal of graduating and becoming a pelvic floor physical therapist. The importance of pelvic floor muscles is frequently over-looked. These muscles control bowel, bladder and sexual function. When there is dysfunction it greatly impacts a person’s way of life. Pelvic floor physical therapy provides tools needed to give people their way of life back so they no longer have to live with fear or embarrassment of pelvic floor symptoms.
In 2023, I became a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Women’s Health Physical Therapy. With the dream to expand access to patient-centered pelvic floor physical therapy for all people, I founded Prosper and Thrive Pelvic Health and Wellness, LLC in 2024.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming an entrepreneur is that hardest thing that I have done in my life so far. It is like riding the world’s largest wooden roller coaster. It is a bumpy, thrilling ride with lots of twist and turns. I am a new entrepreneur so my focus is connecting with my community and learning what their pelvic health needs are and how I can help them fulfill them.
It is not easy opening up about pelvic floor dysfunction or treating pelvic health and wellness as a priority when the demands of life take over, especially as a mother. But preventative care and early treatment prevents serious pelvic health related diagnoses. Teaching others this is one of the greatest struggles as a pelvic floor therapist.
We’ve been impressed with Prosper and Thrive Pelvic Health and Wellness, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Prosper and Thrive Pelvic Health and Wellness, LLC is a pelvic floor physical therapy practice that specializes in pelvic floor physical therapy. We offer a patient-centered full body approach to care. For example, if someone receives treatment for urinary leakage, we also treat their back pain and any other muscular imbalances because everything is connected. We treat the entire person.
Pelvic health and wellness is unique to every body. This is why Prosper and Thrive meets every patient where they are on their unique journey. We listen and we care. Nothing is too much information or too embarrassing for us to hear. It’s real, it’s happening. We will help address it to resolve it.
We offer in-person and virtual services.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is currently a trending topic in healthcare. In the next 5-10 years, pelvic floor physical therapy will be a highly sought after treatment for pelvic floor dysfunctions, such as urinary leakage, fecal leakage, and pelvic pain. It will be recommended as a standard part of postpartum care.
