Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Wade
Alexis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Absolutely! I’ll try to summarize as best as I can.
Since 2007, I have been dedicated to the field of Veterinary Medicine. My journey began in Shelter Medicine, and I have since gained extensive experience in General Practice, Emergency, and Specialty care. Throughout my career, I have held various positions within the hospital setting, from Kennel Assistant to Practice Manager.
A common challenge noted across all veterinary hospitals is the wait time clients and pets experience due to unavoidable circumstances such as emergencies or unexpected serious illnesses. This made me think:
how can I contribute to ensuring consistent care while also reducing wait times?
How can I alleviate the stress experienced by both pets and clients during their visits, especially for quick services like suture removals, medication administration or nail trims?
I can serve as that vital link. As a Registered and Licensed Technician, I am equipped to provide continued care for pets on behalf of their Primary or Specialist Veterinarians and to educate clients. Being mobile allows me to deliver treatments and services in the comfort of the clients’ homes, according to their schedules, with pet parents present, thereby creating a more comfortable experience for everyone involved.
After much thought, planning, hesitation and then relocating from North Carolina to South Carolina a few months ago, I decided to pursue this vision, and here we are!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not, every start-up journey has its own set of hurdles.
Starting a new business, particularly in a niche market, comes with its unique challenges. Since relocating from North Carolina, I’ve had to build my network from the ground up, given that my previous connections are no longer as accessible. Initially, it was somewhat daunting, as my background did not formally include marketing. Regardless, this has presented a valuable learning opportunity.
I am gradually expanding my client base and establishing relationships with local clinics. While the unique nature of my business model understandably requires time for stakeholders to fully embrace it, the feedback from my current repeat clients has been overwhelmingly positive. Additionally, I have forged connections with several veterinarians who consistently refer clients to me, for which I am deeply grateful.
As you know, we’re big fans of bingo. Mobile Vet Tech Services, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
This Mobile Veterinary Technician business is my proud endeavor. As the owner and sole employee, I sometimes collaborate with pre-Vet School volunteers, who assist with treatments and services during appointments under my guidance. I am a Registered and Licensed Veterinary Technician with over 17 years of experience in Veterinary Medicine. Our services are insured, and we hold Fear-Free and RECOVER certifications.
My license allows for me to perform a lot of prescribed treatments and services under the indirect supervision of a Veterinarian as long as there is a valid Veterinarian-Patient-Client-Relationship on file as well as a lot of basic care services not requiring a DVM relationship.
My mission is to support and strengthen the bond between you and your pet’s Primary or Specialty Veterinarian, ensuring consistent care without interruptions caused by scheduling conflicts, temperament considerations, client needs, and other logistical issues.
I offer a comprehensive range of services, many of which pet parents can participate in to help comfort their furry family members. One significant advantage of being a mobile service is the ability to provide care in the pet’s familiar environment, surrounded by their own beds, treats, and scents. I also bring treats and a lot of extra love and affection (to bribe them into being my bestie).
We can tailor the visit according to the preferences of both the owner and the pet. Whether it’s a nice day and you prefer to have the appointment outside, or any other specific requests, as long as it’s safe for everyone and suitable for the appointment, we can accommodate that!
Ultimately, making everyone as comfortable as possible, keeping appointments short and sweet yet effective and allowing clients to save time while ensuring their Veterinarian remains informed is the main objective.
This will help free up our Veterinarians and Technicians in the clinics while maintaining continued care for patients.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I absolutely love the area.
Each city has its own unique charm, and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a diverse array of incredible people everywhere I’ve visited. The move here has been a wonderful experience.
There’s very little to dislike about the area.
Having a mobile business, the extensive driving can be challenging on some days. However, I generally enjoy driving and appreciate the beautiful scenery. Even with the distances between parts of Greenville, Clemson, and Anderson, it doesn’t really bother me.
