Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Charleston Wax Girl was born from my vision of what I felt a wax experience should be! Clients will feel comfortable and taken care of, always. Sanitation is a must and speed waxing is a never. I envisioned a waxing studio where I could put personal touches into the decor ( like my clients’ favorite, the flowers on the ceiling) and choose the best products to feature.
Prior to opening the studio in February of 2024, I had been a licensed cosmetologist for over 15 years and had continually waxed clients. Although at the time I was working in the medical field as a dermatology medical assistant, something I had done since 2018, I longed to get back to my passion, waxing and making connections with my clients.
Originally from NJ, and moving to Charleston in May 2022, I had to re-take all my testing in order to be granted my SC license. This took lots of practice, tears, and preparation as I had not taken this exam since 2008! After many late nights and a few panic attacks, I passed both my written and practical exams and was able to be licensed in the state of SC. While preparing for my tests, I continued to work in my other profession, a dermatological medical assistant. Until I realized that I needed to return back to my passion and begin the dream of owning my own business!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting up a business can be a challenging journey. For me this was true.
I began my business with 0 clients. Since I had not worked in the cosmetology industry here in South Carolina, I had to really begin from scratch. I learned that the best advertisement is word of mouth, that one happy client can lead to numerous clients, simply by having a friend/ family member/ co-worker that recommended my business.
Business ownership was a first for me, so I had to learn all of the ins and outs of daily operation.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My business is a boutique waxing studio, specializing in both men and women’s body waxing.
I really cater to my clients and go above and beyond to assure they are comfortable and feel secure in the experience. My goal is to never rush clients, have a flexible schedule so that clients can get in for a wax on short notice( even if it’s outside of my standard hours) and the experience all about my clients.
