Life & Work with Natalie Marzouca of Downtown Spartanburg SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Marzouca

Hi Natalie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started playing around makeup at age 12 and quickly discovered it became very natural to do other people’s faces after having had practiced on my best friend. As soon as I turned 18 I got my very first job at a makeup counter with Merle Norman and then went on to work with every other major brand since. I quickly realized that working retail wasn’t where I wanted to be but I was passionate about my artistry so working full time for myself was always the goal. I opened up my studio downtown Spartanburg February 2016 and never looked back!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not always. Being in a small town there really isn’t a huge need for mua services so I had to work extra hard to get my name out and have my work seen so people could understand what types of transformations I was able to achieve!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in professional makeup artistry. I’ve been in the industry for over 20 years through blood sweat and tears and never lost sight of making women feel better about themselves. I have trained with the top celebrity makeup artists from all over the world and have had numerous opportunities to get the best trends and techniques to my clients so when I teach my personal makeup lessons I’m able to deliver an experience that’s unique and unforgettable. I’m proud to say that my clientele has grown each year and it ranges from every age to every ethnicity from every demographic

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for young people in the industry that want to get involved in Makeup is to start working behind a Makeup counter because nothing can replace real world experience with trial and error when it comes to learning aircraft and really perfecting your gift. Use social media as a tool to help and network with others!
