Today we’d like to introduce you to Keirsten Criscitiello
Hi Keirsten, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My passion for photography has been a quiet undercurrent in my life since childhood. Growing up, I was captivated by my family’s camera and camcorder, often teaming up with my cousins to create short films, write skits, and design elaborate backdrops in our living room.
In college, I immersed myself in photography courses, learning the intricacies of shooting, developing, and printing my own film. Hours spent in the darkroom deepened my appreciation for the medium. That same year, I acquired my first full-frame digital camera, which quickly became my constant companion. This experience taught me to shoot manually and grasp the delicate interplay of ISO, shutter speed, and aperture.
In 2019, I took my first steps into wedding photography by second shooting a wedding in Colorado, igniting my journey into this dynamic field. Over the past five years, I have had the privilege of capturing over 100 weddings, documenting the intimate moments shared between couples. No haven’t looked back since!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, nothing truly worthwhile comes easily. When I began my journey in 2019, it wasn’t long before our world changed irrevocably. Starting a new business during a global pandemic presented its own challenges, especially alongside my move from Denver to Wilmington. These experiences have brought numerous obstacles, but they’ve also shaped my path and taught me how to build and manage a successful business.
Being a photographer encompasses so much more than just taking pictures; we are creators, accountants, marketing executives, and social media strategists. Juggling these diverse roles has compelled me to learn skills I never would have pursued on my own.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
This is a challenging question for me! As a photographer, my passion lies in staying creative. While I specialize in wedding photography, I also love capturing various facets of life, including branding, food, and newborn sessions.
After reflecting on recent client reviews, a common theme emerges: I’m known for bringing a calm presence to the wedding day. My experience working in restaurants throughout my 20s taught me invaluable skills, particularly how to remain composed in high-pressure situations. This ability to multitask is crucial in my role, as I must effectively manage time and navigate various lighting scenarios during an eight-hour wedding while representing my brand. I take pride in delivering high-quality work within a relatively short timeframe, which I believe sets me apart in the industry.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me as a wedding photographer is capturing genuine moments and emotions that tell each couple’s unique story. I strive to create a comfortable atmosphere, allowing couples to be themselves, which results in authentic, candid photographs. Additionally, I prioritize delivering high-quality images promptly, ensuring that my clients can relive their special day without delay. Building trust and connection with the couples I work with is also essential, as it enables me to document their love in a way that feels personal and meaningful. Ultimately, my goal is to provide a memorable experience while preserving the beauty of their celebration.
