Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Glover
Hi Cameron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2004, I received a call from a friend’s father who was a DJ. He asked if I could assist him with setting up and packing up his equipment at his events because he was getting closer to retiring from being a DJ. As I helped him, I watched his techniques, both as a DJ and an emcee. When he retired, he asked if I was interested in buying his equipment. It all started with a box of CDs, a dual deck CD player, a couple of speakers, and a microphone. I named my business Big Time DJ.
My first year in business, I ran a small ad in the yellow pages and booked 12 events. My second year, I ran a slightly larger ad in the yellow pages and booked 24 events. My third year in business I did over 50 events. I got so busy that I was turning down business, so I decided to bring on another DJ and rename the company Big Time DJs. I knew that I had something special after my fourth year of business when we did over 100 events. During this fast growth, I was able to charge competitive & comparable prices with the top companies in area.
Going into year 5, we received several requests from clients to provide additional services such as photo slideshows and decor lighting and did just that. Throughout the next few years, we continued receiving more requests for additional services, so we added things like photobooths, special effects, musicians, and even bands.
In 2011, we changed the name again. Since we offered so many different services related to events, we didn’t want the name to limit us to just DJs so, we renamed the business what it is today, Big Time Entertainment!
Now, we have been in business over 20 years, have over 30 employees & sub-contractors, do hundreds of events each year and provide several different types of services for special events including DJs, Bands, Musicians, Event Lighting, A/V, Photobooths, Special Effects, Dance Floors, and more!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every year in business, we experienced tremendous growth and continued to set the bar for DJ and entertainment companies throughout the state. We never really experienced an struggles or challenges until the pandemic in 2020. This greatly affected the event industry. Nearly every event we had scheduled got cancelled or rescheduled. This was very challenging since this was my full-time job. It also put a great deal of pressure on me as the owner that had several employees that I knew relied on their pay from events to help put food on their tables.
Fortunately, a lot of event venues are outdoor/indoor so as things began to get back to normal during the pandemic, we were able to reschedule most of the events that cancelled.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
