Today we’d like to introduce you to Elliot Poston
Hi Elliot, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in a small town in South Carolina and started singing in church at the age of fifteen. At the age of eighteen I started learning to play guitar as a Freshman in college. During this time I led worship for various youth groups and was the worship leader for Baptist Collegiate Ministry at Francis Marion University my last year of college.
After graduating college in 2009, I moved to the Midlands of SC, where I would meet my wife. Before we got married, I tried out for several talent shows, but never made the cut. I took that as a sign that maybe I should only focus on my faith and family and chose to only sing and play in church, and ended up getting a position at my local church where I was on staff for eight years. After my time there, my family and I transitioned to another church that I’ve been able to grow, not only in my faith, but musically as well, under some great leadership.
Leading and singing in church actually prepared me (unknowingly) for my current platform. It really helped me learn balance, especially with my family. My wife and I have now been married for over 12 years and have two amazing children. Just last year, I chose to start pursuing Country Music. I released my first single, “The Country Way,” in February of this year, and it got me nominated for Artist of the Month for Carolina Country Music.
I have been featured on Soda City Live on WIS Channel 10 for my new single and my current journey. I also was nominated as Columbia’s Best Local Solo Artist and received runner-up accolades.
My second single, “You Can’t Spell BUSCH Without USC,” has garnered radio play on 94.3 The Dude in Columbia, SC, as part of their College GameDay Pre-Game Show every Saturday.
I released my third single, “Better Than I Deserve,” on September 27th and I have a fourth single called “If Only” set to release mid to late November. This most recent song is inspired by two close friends I lost unexpectedly last year, one to suicide and one who got sick and unfortunately never made it out of the hospital.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been too bad. I’m blessed and so grateful. With the current laws in place, it makes it difficult for many small businesses to have live music due to how expensive insurance rates are, so that’s probably been the “most difficult” side of things, but still not too bad. The journey can be tough, but through “a little southern charm and a lot of hard work,” I’ve learned it’s not as difficult as it may seem. I have a vision for my brand. I love playing breweries and hotels. I’m a family man and most breweries are family friendly. I also love private events. Helping someone’s event be extra special, extra fun, etc. is so rewarding.
Give grace, show mercy, and have faith: this goes a long way in building a relationship with business owners and fans. My goal isn’t to necessarily be on the HUGE stage, touring every night, although it would be pretty cool. I just want to support my family.
Understanding I’m “better than I deserve” and displaying gratitude, helps me to stay focused. It’s easy to compare and get distracted, but luckily I’m blessed with an amazing wife and family.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Country Music Artist who started chasing the Country Music dream last July at the age of 36. I’m most proud of being able to show my kids they can chase their dreams. I’ve been doing this now for a year and a half and have released 3 songs and have had two songs featured on different radio programs here in South Carolina. I believe what sets me apart from most people is my authenticity and realness. I’m the same person on and off stage. I love being a family man. I’m beyond blessed.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yeah. Feel free to book me for your next event and check out my music. I can be heard on all listening apps and hope to have music be my full time career one day. You can find all of my information at:
