Daily Inspiration: Meet Nikki Chainz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Chainz

Hi Nikki, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began to show an interest in music by the age of 6 when my grandparents bought me a little keyboard and guitar, then soon followed an appetent taste for the electric and acoustic guitar.
With access to keyboards and instruments my grandparents had around their house, I began my path to songwriting, writing original songs along the way because I was inspired to be like my grandfather, who played the mandolin and performed in Bluegrass bands around the upstate.
Music was always a part of my life growing up. My parents hugely influenced me musically, they took me to my first big concert. It was Rage Against the Machine and U2 at the age of 10. Our household was raised by MTV which inspired me more to pursue my dreams to take the stage like my fellow idols.
Influences range from Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Alice in Chains, Prince, Billy Idol, Led Zepplin, 90’s music rock and Classic Rock

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I always struggled getting support from friends and some family members about my career choice. I was always told to work a normal job and forget about that dream, it’s unrealistic and I almost listened and believed them. Something always tried to steer me away from what I loved doing. It was either lack or money, unsupportive people, jobs that I felt out of place taking up my time and not having reliable resources or connections to help bring the dream to fruition. I’ve learned to push past all of the noise and just keep going!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter. I’m most known for my melodic piano tunes and diverse vocal range. I love doing covers by some of my favorite artists. The genres are very diverse but my love for rock music has always been the most fun for me to explore.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Greenville has so much to offer in terms of fun and entertainment. I love exploring new restaurants and strolling downtown to catch live music on the weekends. It’s all about community and I find that I really have a place to call home here. You can see national acts perform or catch a comedy show. There’s local events that give artists a chance to share their art, or their music with the community. Greenville is a beautiful city that has had so much growth and I really feel it’s one of the best cities in the state!
