Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Sims
Hi Shelby, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been drawn to creativity and art and my outlet was my etsy shop, but it wasn’t until this year that I truly embraced being creative through TikTok. My best friend and I made a New Year’s resolution to start posting on the platform, and she’s always been my number-one supporter. One of my first videos was a DIY charm necklace, and I never expected it to blow up the way it did—seeing something I made get over 2 million views is just wild!
That moment really opened my eyes to the power of social media and how I could connect with people and brands that resonate with my target audience. I’ve always had an interest in social media marketing, and since I’m chronically online, I stay in tune with the latest trends, which has been a huge help for generating video ideas. It’s been an exciting journey, and I can’t wait to see where it leads!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! While I’ve enjoyed some great successes, there have also been challenges along the way. One of the biggest hurdles has been navigating the constantly shifting landscape of social media trends while trying to maintain originality. What works one week might not resonate the next, which can feel a bit overwhelming at times.
I’ve also experienced moments of self-doubt, especially when a video doesn’t perform as well as I’d hoped. It’s easy to question my abilities and whether my content truly resonates with my audience, and that imposter syndrome can be very real.
However, I’ve learned to embrace these struggles as part of the journey. They’ve taught me resilience and encouraged me to keep experimenting and evolving my content. I’ve learned that breaks are needed so that I don’t get creative burnout.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in hauls, unboxings, DIYs, crafts, ect. I try to create videos that I would watch (trinket girlies unite) and i’m so thankful to have worked with brands like Miniso, Casetify, & Pop Mart!
What sets me apart is my knowledge of social media trends and what aligns with my unique style. I’m always jotting down new video ideas in my notes app and either what songs or videos are currently trending.
I’m most proud of the friendships I’ve formed through TikTok. Putting yourself out there in your 30s can be challenging, so connecting with like-minded people has been such a rewarding experience!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love putting on a true crime podcast or the JustTrish podcast while I edit videos—it keeps me entertained and motivated. Pinterest is also a fantastic resource for scrolling and gathering inspiration; it’s my go-to for fresh ideas and DIY projects!
