Inspiring Conversations with Tena Lampkin of Tri-County Mobile Phlebotomy Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tena Lampkin

Hi Tena, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got started with phlebotomy by developing an interest in healthcare and wanting to work directly with patients. After completing my phlebotomy training, I gain experience in various settings, such as hospitals and outpatient clinics, patient service centers and American Red Cross. That gave me the confidence and skills that I needed to start my own mobile phlebotomy business. This allowed me to offer convenient, on- location blood draw services for clients who need flexibility or have difficulties visiting the labs.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. Starting a business comes with many challenges. My challenges were: Building a Client Base: It can be difficult to attract initial clients and establish trust. Marketing: Promoting a specialized service like mobile phlebotomy requires effective marketing strategies to reach potential clients and medical offices.
Logistics and scheduling: Coordinating appointments, managing travel time, and dealing with last minute cancellations can be challenge, especially as you scale.
Gaining referrals: Many mobile phlebotomy businesses rely on referrals from healthcare providers or home health agencies, which can take time to develop, and Staying competitive: Competing with larger labs or services can be tough, particularly if they offer similar services at lower costs or have established relationships with local healthcare providers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Tri-County Mobile phlebotomy Services provides on-site blood draw services, typically at a patient’s home or workplace. This service is considered a concierge service, this service is especially convenient for individuals with mobility issues, busy schedules, or those who prefer the comfort and privacy of their own environment. We cater to homebound patients, corporate wellness programs, clinical trials, and routine lab tests.

What sets us apart from others; We offer specialized services; we focus on specific groups, like geriatric patients, pediatric patients, or homebound individuals. We also offer DNA and drug testing as well as wellness panels. We have partnered with labs that offer quick processing, and rapid turnaround time for results.

We are most proud brand wise for our reputation of care and the convenience and accessibility.
Clients frequently commend us for our years of experience, our gentle techniques and of course making the blood draw experience as stress free as possible. We are proud of how accessible our services are, reaching patients who have limited mobility or can’t make it to traditional clinics.

We would like readers to know that our brand and services is about several key aspects:
Convenience and flexibility
Professionalism and safety
Personalized services
Fast and reliable results
Transparent pricing and Patient Centered Approach

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk that I have taken is launching my own small business to compete against larger companies. I’m venturing into entrepreneurship, taking on financial and operational responsibilities on my own. I may face intense competition from an established brand with larger resources and deeper pockets. Competing for the same clients and contracts can be scary, especially if they have a long standing relationships.

I’ll be taking on former employers as a competitor, that is a bold move but it can be rewarding if I strategically position my business as offering something they can’t: personal attention, convenience, or specialized care.
