Life & Work with Kia Keeney of Greenville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kia Keeney

Hi Kia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My background has always been characterized by a strong creative drive and a passion for design, creativity, and self-expression. My journey began with the creation and sale of dance hula hoops, crystals, and wire-wrapped jewelry at local farmers markets. As I delved deeper into my artistic pursuits, I became captivated by the art of electroforming and the organic processes it entailed. A pivotal moment occurred when a friend presented me with a cicada and said “Ooooh! Try this!?” People loved it, and wanted more. This marked the inception of my signature style, which involves incorporating natural elements and copper into the creation of intentional and wearable art. The distinctiveness of my style has been a source of great pride and fulfillment for me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasnt always been a smooth road. Balancing the roles of a mother and entrepreneur has been a delicate dance—there were moments of self-doubt and times when finding my audience felt like searching for a needle in a haystack. But it’s those very bumps and challenges that have shaped who I am today. Through it all, I’ve learned that the struggles are part of the growth process. I have become more resilient, more determined, and closer to my purpose. Every setback has been a stepping stone, pushing me to dig deeper, align with my truth, and use my business as a vehicle to not only provide for my family, but to inspire others to rise above their own challenges.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a copper electroforming artist who specializes in transforming natural elements—such as crystals, insects, and leaves—into unique, wearable art. With a certification in Reiki, I infuse each piece with intention, creating magical talismans that resonate deeply with the soul. My work is most recognized for incorporating cicadas, a powerful symbol of rebirth and transformation, which have always been a personal totem in my life. As a proud, self-taught artist, I take great care in using real, ethically sourced insects, ensuring that each creation is one-of-a-kind. What truly sets my work apart is the connection I cultivate between the stones and their wearers, allowing the piece to find the person it’s meant for. It’s more than art—it’s a spiritual journey.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I envision expanding my online presence and building a strong base of online sales, making my art accessible to a wider audience. Ultimately, my dream is to open a charming emporium where my work can be showcased alongside that of other talented artists. This space would not only be a gallery but also a creative hub, hosting workshops, classes and live music. It would be a place where artists can thrive, collaborate, and where the community can feel inspired—a safe space for creativity to flourish.”
