Rising Stars: Meet Jameelah Muhammad of Greenville, SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jameelah Muhammad

Hi Jameelah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born in Boston, MA raised in Greenville, South Carolina! I’ve been into fashion since a child. My mom is into fashion, I guess it’s just in me. In 2011 I decided to start making clothes. I dabbed in a few names until 2 years ago I decided PASE is THE name. Pase is named after my (first) nephew. I wanted to do something I love. Something to leave to my future kids and my nephew. Something that meant so much to me.
I actually am a designer though. I’ve just been doing urban wear because that’s the direction I wanted for PASE. But understand, I can make anything, from skirts to duffle bags to wedding dresses.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Heck no! As I stated, I’ve changed names.
I stopped and started back. I questioned if this was for me. But, I am fashion. So even if I quit, I couldn’t!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Im an urban streetwear clothing line owner of PASE. But also a designer. I specialize in doing many prom dresses. Some might know me from music, but I won’t get into that lol. If people don’t know my name, they know my fashion. Some may say I “dumb it down” by going the urban wear route, but I too need those comfy fly clothes so why not be the creator?
I’m proud that I don’t let the outside affect my personal growth, anymore.
It can be hard. I’ve second guessed myself many times, but I keep going and block it out. Pray about it and back at it. Prayer sounds cliché but truth is truth.
What sets me apart? I decided I’m not doing this for clout. Not even riches. To be well off for my future kids, to be good, of course. But not riches and greediness. Not for bragging rights. This is how I serve God. He gave me a talent and I’m being appreciative of that and using it. Also, I don’t care what anyone else has going on. I mind my business.
MY business is on my mind.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Man. Major shifts and changes. Always in the works.
But I like to keep that between me and God and surprise you all.
