Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Malave
Hi Karina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Karina Malave, and I am a wife and mother of two sons. I was born in Puerto Rico but raised in Venezuela, where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a master’s degree in Education. In 2000, I decided to move with my family to West Palm Beach, Florida. During this time, I pursued an education in cosmetology followed by nursing. The combination of these fields inspired me to become a specialist in beauty and skin care.
At that time, the demand for cosmetology instructors was high, so I decided to apply my teaching skills once again and became a cosmetology teacher. I helped students from various backgrounds and levels achieve their board-certified cosmetology licenses. During this period, I also published a book in Spanish on cosmetology studies.
With a dream of becoming independent, I opened my first salon and spa, where Essence Skincare LLC was born. The primary goal of Essence Skincare is to enhance natural beauty and help people feel confident with healthy, beautiful skin. In 2021, I made the decision to move to Greenville, South Carolina, to be closer to one of my sons and my granddaughters. I am grateful to our Lord and Savior for allowing me to continue my dream of independence and providing skin care services to both women and men.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success is both infinite and challenging. One of the many hurdles I’ve faced has been learning the custom and language of this country. Additionally, navigating the various dynamics of running a business—whether it’s marketing, legal matters, or finance—can often be a struggle. Each aspect presents its own set of difficulties, but overcoming them is essential for growth and long-term success.

The definition is sucess that I have is the achievement personal and professional goals. That are obtained through hard work, fulfilments and growth. It is not linear, it roller-coaster ride that varies from person to person “My older son calls it a Journey rather than Destination ”
